2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
On Tap, Monks Café Stockholm Clearest pale golden pour with active effervescence that conjures a fair white head leaving solid lacing around. A bit lacking in terms of hop brightness, rather mineral for the style as well, which disturbs the bitterness furthermore. otherwise, rather generic grassiness hides hop pretty much any trace of the deficient malts. Very dry palate ultimately, but lacking the freshness that could lead it anywhere close to glory.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Medium white lasting head is creamy on top. Yellow body. Fruity strawy grassy aroma is kind of faint. Dry-sweetish mealy strawy grassy taste with peppery notes. Mid-bodied. Dusty mouthfeel. Bitter grassy aftertaste is sort of simple. Not bad, but not very good, either. (0.33l draft at Monk’s Café, Stockholm, as Monks Bavarian Pils.)

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Draught at Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Golden yellow colour with huge white head. Malty, grassy nose with toffee notes. Malty, grassy taste with notes of citrus and pineapple. Initial malt sweetness leading to a drier, nice grassy bitterness in the finish. Hops leaning slightly in the Czech direction. Classic pils, solid but unadventurous.

Hazy gold, bottle from an Augsburg Getränkemarkt. Nice peppery hops, light but malty dody, noce bitterness in the tail. The hops lift this from a crowd of Helles that tend to be bland.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2014 re-rate from bottle. Green-golden, fine sparkly, white lace. Rich german aromatic hops, a hint countryside/sulphur, Medium body, chewy, sparkly, nice broad hop profile going from metallic grassy to a flowery finish. Really nice, happy I had a chance to try it again.

Pale green golden colouring, low lacing head.
Bready malt aroma with hints of aromatic hops.
Lightbodied, onedimensional malty pils, some flowery hops help a bit - its nowhere near what the commercial description promisses though.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival 2009, as Monks Cafe Bavarian Pils. Golden color with long lasting head. Firm honeyish malty aroma. Malty and honeyish flavor with medium bitterness and some herbal hops.
Smooth palate. Good maltiness but this needs more hops.

Bottle looks simple but really good. Nice format. Beer in the glass zippy, nice head. Starts modest hoppy-dry, some light metallically notes. A bit fruity-moldy. Finish dry-malty. Okay, but nothing special.
