BlackHaddock (2443) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2013
500ml Bottle: poured twice into my ’La Chouffe’ stemmed tulip on 16 Mar 2013. Looked special in the glass: rich deep ruby red when held up to the light, on top a full and lasting crown of tanned foam. Alcohol soaked fruits (plums, raisins, dates) with malty molasses fill the nose when you take a sniff. It’s like a drunken fruit cake sort of smell. Those fruity and sweet malty esters carry on into the taste: the flavours are added too by dark chocolate and caramel notes, we are talking some seriously hefty notes here though. The body is both rich and somewhat oily in nature: suits the flavours though, too sweet for some, but it really hit my sweet tooth in the right place. Couldn’t drink this all night but I’d have managed another if I’d had one. Although the alcohol isn’t hidden as much as I’d like, it is a very good example of this style.

Cola color, malty sweet, raisins, burned sugar, some sourish rye bread. Gives me kvass associations. Complex, elegant, this stands aout among its dobbelbock peers.

12/02/2013 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Corpo medio, carbonazione leggera. Una gran bella doppelbock!

Bottle. Dark mahogany body, medium off-white head. Aroma is raisins, caramel and hints of grass, surprisingly enough. Taste is more raisins, toffee, grains and hints of caramel. Full body, soft carbonation. Nice, but not exceptional.

500ml bottle. Clear darkest amber colour with small to average firm frothy to creamy beige head. Slightly sweet dark malty aroma, toasted malt, toffee. Taste is moderately sweet dark malty, lots of toffee, caramel, a minimal bitter hop note contributes to a slightly dry finish. Solid Doppelbock.
