Poured from a 16 oz can. Aroma has a nice coffee forward character. Light roast notes with some fruitiness and nuttiness from the coffee. Medium light chocolate notes. Light fruit esters. Pours black with a moderately thick, light mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a nice light sweetness with a solid amount of chocolate and light roast notes. Moderately strong coffee character contributes nice complexity. Medium light bitterness. Some lingering roast character with hints of astringency. Light fruit esters. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly creamy with medium carbonation. Medium low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty good beer with a nice aroma and flavor upfront. The finish is a bit bitter and astringent and reminds me of old coffee grinds, but thankfully its not overpowering. Good but not amazing.

Nephilium (1324) - Ohio, USA - JUL 17, 2014
Big roasted coffee aroma, pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. The coffee notes are the predominant flavor, with a little chocolate coming through in the mid palate. Finish is full on roast, long and lingering. Body is a bit thinner then I prefer my stouts, and this one has a little bite of carbonation to it. Overall, this is an easy drinking stout with some good coffee flavor.

Can. Dark brown color with a small, light brown head. Fresh roasted coffee aroma. Taste is spot on, espresso with a little chocolate sweetness to balance the oatmeal bitterness. Average carbonation with a thin, somewhat dry texture. Very well done!

Sample at Kurtkeller 015: Coffee-tastic 02 on 07/05/2014. Brownish-black color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Stringy lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and malt. Light to medium body with a roasty character of coffee and malt, with touches of chocolate. The finish is dry with a cocoa and espresso aftertaste. Above average overall.

Reviewed from notes. Rcvd in trade. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking dark brown to black colored body with a fairly nice lookin’ one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. The aroma had a nice roasty to somewhat bitter smelling coffee/somewhat light chocolatey-goodness just rolling all around my nose. The taste took those smells and just basically really shook them all about to blend to taste and really shake things up a bit. On the palate, this one sat a light to medium and showed a fairly decent sessionability to hold itself up against other stouts. Overall, I say this was not a bad American Stout, seek and you shall find a much worthy stout to enhance your beer tasting experience.

A very nice sweet stout reinforces the evidence that Michigan breweries are among the most adept in the country. A blend of breakfast and dessert flavors works well to produce a memorable experience.

Aroma / Appearance - The fluid black base crawls up and down the glass along with a bubbly light head the color of watered down mocha. Black coffee, licorice, and malt driven flavors impress the texture of cooling coffee.

Flavor / Palate - Creamy coffee coats the tongue and throat. Dark chocolate and plum add nice depth. A pleasing mouthfeel opens up along with a low key finish. This is a gem from southern Michigan that everyone passing through should check out.

Good stout. Pours a dark, dark brown. Little head that disappears quickly. No lacing. Nice robust taste that starts malty and ends with a bitter finish. Good, just not great.

16 oz can poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate and roasted malt. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a smooth dry lingering coffee finish.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 On tap at Ashley’s. Black pour with light beige head. Aroma is inviting with strong coffee and chocolate notes. While the coffee is front and center, I don’t get much else from this. Dry. Thin. Light bitter finish. Edited: From a pint can, taste is improved. Mouthfeel is still thin for what I like in a stout. Rating changed from 2.7 to 3.0.
