2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tasted 0n 4/11/13 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle sent to me in the Easter Bunny BIF. I am very excited to finally try something from this brewery. Pours clear dark amber with a thin off-white head that slowly recedes to thin lace. The nose is caramel malt with some vanilla oak, but it seems to have begun souring. The flavor is much more sour up front with all of the caramel malt and barrel flavors taking a back seat. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long sour and caramel malt finish. I was very excited to try this beer, but unfortunately, I believe it infected.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pretty good for the style. Aging added body. Not much whisky flavor though. Remembered more of a whiskey influence the first time I tried it at Lansing beerfest.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Brown with small head. Seems boozier than 7%. Light bourbon with mild malt. I don’t know why but I’m only eh about this.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from the brewery. Pours a murky brown with no real head. Aroma that reminds me of slightly tart fruit and darker, dusty malts. Flavor was a mix of more tartness, a little dry earth and a little booze at the end. Okay but seemed disjointed.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber in color with a thick beige head. Aroma of malt, whiskey and light tartness. Malty flavor with that same slight tartness before a dry whiskey finish.

Strong flavors of vanilla, caramel, oak, and burnt sugar. Rather bitter, but still smooth.

22oz bottle. Poured an orange/amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of wood, caramel, and lighter bourbon. Tastes of bourbon (stronger than the aroma), vanilla, caramel, and some wood.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber at the Lansing Beerfest. Dark brown with a beige head. Tons of bourbon in the nose and flavor. I like bourbon, I liked this.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy amber. Medium lasting head. A little sweet booze in the aroma along with vanilla and caramel. More caramel in the taste, sweet in the aroma but not in flavor. Nice blend of flavor. The mouthfeel seems a little light.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Another sampler from the tap takeover. First impression: wow! I really liked this one. Sheet stated barrel-aged, but definitely a bourbon or whiskey barrel. Was smooth drinking. Pleasant smell. Good mouth feel. I did not get the boozy feel I get with some of the barrel-aged.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at The Oak Cafe. Pours amber with a small head that quickly fades. Aroma is all whiskey barrel. Strong whiskey scent with vanilla and oak. Taste is the same. I can’t taste any of the base amber beer. Mild alcohol burn in the finish, pretty boozy. Overall, this is not my thing really. If all I wanted to taste was whiskey then I would order a whiskey.
