3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Hazy amber color with a medium thin off-white head. Spotty lacing. Malt, caramel and slight hops in the nose. Medium body with flavors of grainy malt, caramel and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber in color with a thick beige head. Aroma of malt, whiskey and light tartness. Malty flavor with that same slight tartness before a dry whiskey finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from the brewery. Pours a murky brown with no real head. Aroma that reminds me of slightly tart fruit and darker, dusty malts. Flavor was a mix of more tartness, a little dry earth and a little booze at the end. Okay but seemed disjointed.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle
This barrel aged amber ale is a fine offering from Right Brain. The nice balance keeps the whiskey from completely taking over. If this is a regular then grab one when you are in southern Michigan as an example of what the state can produce.
Aroma / Appearance - Cheery red fluid flows around the glass. The carbonated base opens up to a crisp white head. Chestnuts, mild whiskey, and malty iced tea are a slight bit boozy. Overall though the balance is solid.
Flavor / Palate - Whiskey is more evident in the first sip. Vanilla, cream soda, and melted Twix fill the palate with sweetness. The barrel aging process takes the edge off yet leaves the core of the beer intact. I’d pick up another release from Right Brain in a heartbeat if they came across the Michigan border.

Tap. Brown with small head. Seems boozier than 7%. Light bourbon with mild malt. I don’t know why but I’m only eh about this.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy orange copper color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, apple, cherry, toast, toffee, clove, pepper, oak, bourbon, light vanilla, floral, grass, and toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, fruitiness, and barrel presence; with solid strength. Smells moderately like an oak aged sour here, but it’s not offensive. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, cherry, apple, oak, clove, floral, light bourbon, grass, pepper, and floral earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, light fruits, clove, oak, pepper, light whiskey, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance and complexity of malt and fruitiness; with moderate barrel presence and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice and unique amber ale. Good balance and complexity of malt and fruity flavors, with moderate barrel presence; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at The Oak Cafe. Pours amber with a small head that quickly fades. Aroma is all whiskey barrel. Strong whiskey scent with vanilla and oak. Taste is the same. I can’t taste any of the base amber beer. Mild alcohol burn in the finish, pretty boozy. Overall, this is not my thing really. If all I wanted to taste was whiskey then I would order a whiskey.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tasted 0n 4/11/13 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle sent to me in the Easter Bunny BIF. I am very excited to finally try something from this brewery. Pours clear dark amber with a thin off-white head that slowly recedes to thin lace. The nose is caramel malt with some vanilla oak, but it seems to have begun souring. The flavor is much more sour up front with all of the caramel malt and barrel flavors taking a back seat. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long sour and caramel malt finish. I was very excited to try this beer, but unfortunately, I believe it infected.
