This just showed up at the supermarket in my neighborhood... Really Fleur Drive Hy-Vee? A Belgian beer I’ve never heard of the name of which has something to do with washing a pig? You folks may still have some surprises in store for me yet!

Pours a pale golden color with a big tight fluffy white head, a very thick head that leaves lots of lacing on the glass.

The aroma is both pleasant and unexciting, some yeasty bread dough character is dominant with some mild alcohol and spice.

The flavor is good, spicy & only mildly sweet. Some nice honey character is displayed well, the spicy alcohol notes are very complimentary to the all around character of the beer and while the beer does have a fairly bold flavor the alcohol character never really becomes "hot" or "boozy". As the beer warms floral and pear character comes through along with a tad more sweetness.

I think the beer’s mouthfeel certainly hints at it’s alcoholic strength. The beer does not carry overly heavy on the palate, but it’s far from light or "easy" as it were. The Alcohol provides a bit of sharpness, but the finish is smooth & not sharp, lingering, or alcoholic at all.

Perfectly enjoyable beer, I’m not sure I’m going to be drinking a whole lot of it at $9 for a 750ml, but I have no troubles with the amount I spent trying it this first time.

Bottle a gift from Mam and Dad’s holiday in Belgium. Pale golden in colour with sugary sweet and malty flavours, toffee, candy sugar and a warming, powerful alcoholic finish.

Poured from the tap in a tulip. Poured clear yellow color with an frothy white head that lasted well with good lacing. Moderate citrus, yeast and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a soft carbonation. Flavor was middle of the road with a sweet finish. Not bad, but definitely not an all-star.

This is a wonderful Belgian which I just discovered when--for the first time--I stopped in at Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA--in the San Diego boondocks. It is similar in some ways to Duvel, but is a tad sweeter with a really nice green apple flavor. Very refreshing with some hop bitterness at first, it goes down smooth. SUPERB... I’m mystified that it doesn’t get uniformly spectacular ratings!

Bottle pours a lightly cloudy golden with a thin white head. Scent of fruit and yeast. Taste is sweet with spices.ish, but still quite OK.

75cl bottle at Dayton Ale Feast. This was really pretty nice overall. A fairly true-to-form, classic Belgian strong ale. Nice fruity, maltiness with a hint of alcohol and spice. Pleasant.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (flowers), with notes of candied pineapple and gum, light note of soap. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Very mild in every way...floral-fruity nose is pleasant but doesn’t offer much, flavor balance is simple-sweet but non-fatiguing thanks to the watery texture and medium viscosity. Drinks much more like a 6% beer. Forgettable, but not bad.

2/17/12. 750mL bottle. Almost clear golden pour with a small off-white head. Fruity, estery aroma with touches of lemon peel, melons, yeast, and a touch of sourness. Bright, citrusy flavor with lemon peel, yeast, esters, sweet pale malts, and more. Not bad.
