COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Previously available bottle conditioned. Ceased being bottle conditioned after Marston took over in 2007.
Ingredients: Marris Otter malt; Challenger, Goldings,Fuggles and Progress hops.
The name refers both to the abv, and, by reference to the Californian goldrush of 1849, to the golden colour.

Where and how: LCBO / b. 500 ml
Aroma creamy with diacetyl laced feel, caramel bready with hints of earthy hops.
Appearance :
Top: large, foamy tanned off white head. Thick film on glass.
Base: hazy amber with touch of brown.
Palate : medium bodied, tad thinner walls. Mild carbonation.
Taste: simple malty feel with muted hops. Lacking live, depth and complexity.
Other notes not very good.

Bottled (backlog). Amber colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is caramel, mildly nutty and biscuity notes along with resin and some floral notes. Flavour is floral and grassy bitterness along with some resiny and toffeeish notes. Rich carbonation.

Subtly rich marmalade and malty nose. Clear golden beer with minimal white head. Flavour is bright, cheap marmalde on toast. A simple but mouthwateringly effective and well balanced light sweet bitter. Very moreish.
