Cask at the Carpenters Arms, London. Pours cloudy amber with a creamy, off-white head. Bread and caramel dominate the nose. Flavor is fairly syrupy, a bit medicinal, with caramel and sugar malts, followed by faint bitterness. Also notes of maple and nuts. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Finishes mostly sweet with some not super pleasant bitterness. Could be better.

Hand pulled at the Porterhouse, Westbourne, Hants/Dorset(??). Deep rosy/amber hue, with a thin, level soap-top. Belgian toffee aroma. Quite a strong, almost vinegary flavour. Belgian qualities certainly: dryness, greasy flowery liqueurness, licorice(?), berries. OK, spicy.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2007 I had this on cask last night. The flavour wasn’t bad, hints of apple, not too bitter. It is probably better suited to the winter, than a hot summers day. Will try again later in the year.

cask at charlies clear caramelly brown, small smooth beige head. Mild aroma, faint. A bit dusty. Caramelly flowery notes. Flavor is caramelly with lots of fruity notes, lots of slightly bitter notes. Great composition, fresh flowery and fruity, yet also delicately caramelly.
