blutt59 (776), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 25, 2008 bottle, almond colored pour, very nice foam, nose fruity malts, flavor is same with a good bitterness and smooth even finish Wulfstan (481), California, USA Sep 22, 2008 This is a tasty English-style ale. I have not had the one actually brewed in England, but Shipyard’s license-made version is one of the best US-made versions of a real English-style ESB I have had.
It’s copper with a medium, dense, off-white head slowly shrinking. The aroma is nutty, fruity with hints of caramel and pine, bread crust, leaves, earth, and overall very English. The taste is very English, earthy and leafy with fruit, a faint hint of a yeasty tang, nutty with bread crust, hint of caramel and licorice, pepper. It is bready and nicely lightly sweet with a lightly dominant earthy bitterness. jetzler (591), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA Sep 19, 2008 Bottle, Pours a red/gold color with tan head, light aroma some malts and some hops but faint. Yeast character, fairly english in style more like old speckled hen rather than like fullers. Its fine the nothing special but not bad quite english in profile. RichJ7 (890), Cullman, Alabama, USA Sep 18, 2008 Murky brown pour, small white head. Musty yeast and malt aroma. Soft British malt character, similar to the Wychwood beers (Burtonized?). Sharp hop tang. Very enjoyable. DrDavid (328), Johnson, Vermont, USA Sep 7, 2008 (Bottle). Yeasty aroma. Copper amber with large off-white head. Flavor is caramel, medium sweet. Not wonderful, but pleasant.
