Orange gold with white head. Aroma and taste stale malt with sweet orange. Not something to look for.

Bottled. Poured clear, brighter orange with a creamy beige head. The aroma picked up bready and fruity notes with herbal and orange peel accents. The flavor found sweet honey and bready notes at the core, with orange peel and spiced fruity notes around.. finished tangy over sweet malt. Lighter-bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. smooth feel on the middle with good transitions.. solid stuff.

UPDATED: MAR 19, 2013 Pale golden beer, good head that stays long, laces nicely and that’s pretty much where the good ends.
Smells a little skunky, like cheap beer from a dive bar.
Tastes pretty much like that, too.
Definitely better than Budweiser, for whatever that’s worth.

Shipyard Old Thumper Extra Special Ale has a medium-to-thick, off-white head, a hazy, orange-golden appearance, which hazes even more, once the bottom of the bottle is swished and poured in. After that, one can see a descending grey cloud and little brown specks floating about. There is some lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of sweet, sugary, and toffee-like barley malt, and the flavor is of the same with a nice hop bitterness, some caramel, sugar, and alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and Shiyard Old Thumper Extra Special Ale finishes wet, mild, and delicious. Overall, this is wonderful, and I strongly recommend it. RJT

650 mL bottle purchased from local grocery. To pint it pours a clear cidery autumn russet with which resembled a lambic. Thin, off-white head. Smells of vomitus, Bible paper, tin, caraway seeds, cotton, and vegetables. Tastes the same; tin and fibrous textile fabric are really intense. A squeak of sourness and unripe nectarine by swallow.

sweet little pint served in a tumbler. clear clean body. buttery sweet and some saw dust. Dry finish. good for a winter night. Overall a little plain but a good simple Maine beer.
