3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
English porter with milky, off-white, thin and quickly opening foam and very dark burgundy colour, almost black, clear. Dense and powerfully malty aroma, toasted and smoky, raisins, candied dates, coffee, sweet tobacco, madera, charcoal, cloves, balsamic vinegar, chocolates, juniper berries, candi syrup. Soft fruity onset, rounded, subtly sweet, caramelly, pleasant lemon acidity, full maltiness with roasted bitter finish, creamy with the acidity coming back in the finish. I enjoyed this very much.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in 9th January 2014. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear dark ruby in colour with a thin buff head. Good roast grain note in the short malty aroma with a hint of dark fruity plum. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark complex malts give a juicy maltloaf base with a smokey roasted grain flavour. Sweet notes of raisins and juicy black plum. There is a white peppery note present in the short bitter aftertaste which fades fast. Finish is malty with wood smoke, leather, dried dates and roasted almonds. This is a decent session and old fashioned in style Porter and one of my favourites from the Ringwood portfolio. Well recommended.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at Kingsbridge Inn, Bourton on the Water, Glos. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium light beige head on top. Roasty, malty, dark fruit aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, dark fruit, slight coffee. I wasnít expecting too much from a Ringwood beer but this was highly drinkable.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask in Smithís Tavern, Ashbourne. Deep mahogany with a slightly frothy cream head. Not overly strong in flavour for a porter. A touch fruity at first with some roasty malt flavour. A good dry coffee finish. Very drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask @ Pilgrims Progress, Bedford. Very dark brown with little head, but very lively natural carbonation. Aroma of burnt coffee with hints of coffee and coal. Bittersweet taste with a slightly sour edge. Dry finish. This is a decent porter. Iím not a natural Ringwood fan but credit where credit is due.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at the Figure of Eight, Birmingham. Looking at the other reviews Iím not sure whatís going on here. I thought this was outstanding - one of the better beers Iíve sampled this year. Looks great - dark with fabulous lacing. Taste is rich and full and long: big smoke, but rich coffee, with balancing sweetness. Packed full of taste. Excellent.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Half pint at the 3 Guineas in Reading. Very dark brown-red, a with a little bubbly head. Light and fruity, more of a bitter than a porter, and lightly spiced. Spice and hops in the aroma, its fair. Quite plain and uninspiring ultimately.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Cask from the tap room at The Dove, Ipswich. Dark ruby colour, with a brown bubbly head. Slightly sour, berry aroma, very dry. A fruity flavour came through that was a little difficult to decipher - blackcurrant, raspberry perhaps? Rather an unusual beer, not unpleasantly so, but donít think I could have had more than a pint.
