COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Polaris is our first special release beer—a wheat stout aged in Jim Beam bourbon barrels. We started with our winter weizen stout Ursa Minor, fermenting it to completion in steel before barrel aging it for 5 months. Hints of the base beer remain but with the added complexity of vanilla, raisin, bourbon, and oak notes. Conditioned to a moderately low level of carbonation in the bottle, this beer is a perfect cold-evening sipper. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Limited release of 336 hand-numbered bottles with letter press labels printed by The Ascensius Press in South Freeport, Maine. A portion of the proceeds from this beer will benefit the Autism Society of Maine.

375ml bottle from Tully’s. Pours black with a one finger mocha colored foamy head. No lace. Some dry oak, raisins and bourbon on the nose. Wheat, more oak, vanilla and dark fruit round out the flavor. Nothing stands out. Thin and dry palate. Ok stout, but disappointing for the price. Didn’t see where there was anything exclusive about it.

Pours a light brown, one-finger head that vanishes quickly leaving no lace. Black color, no highlights, ton of yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and light-medium bodied, body is a little thin for a stout. Bourbon and sweet wheat nose. Flavor is malty sweet wheat and bourbon. Pricey at $8.50 for a caged and corked 375ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

Thanks to Dobby for this tick. Bottle 28 of 336. Very dark brown color with a well-formed tan head. Roasty aroma with a hint of bourbon and chocolate. Interestig flavor, both roasty and wheaty with a slight tartness at the finish. A bit thin on the palate with average carbonation. Not great, just OK.

22oz bottle thanks to dholland. Numbered 37 of 336... Pours a deeper silk black pour, almost opaque with dark reddish brown edges, and topped with a thin film of light khaki head that eventually turns wispy... Aroma of an assertive bourbon bent in the aroma with a roasty yeasty second dipping. Softer cocoa and chocolate, a touch of smoke... Lighter dark fruit boozy woody whisky it seems with some following notes of chocolate and bitter roast... Flavors are very much along the same lines with an assertive barrel notes with softer roast and char. Somewhat tart but not infected by any means. Body is lighter than medium and desereved more body. Ok.

Bottle thanks to a generous trader. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Flavor has dark grains with a bit of roast with backing sweet bourbon. Flavor starts with roasted malts and a hint of salty meat backed by sweet bourbon.
