Holy cow is this smoky. Huge fireplace aroma. Looks like a cola. Taste is charcoal but also a bit sweet, which is a shame.

Intensiver, angenehmer Rauchgeruch. Geschmack erst im Abgang rauchig, insgesamt aber ziemlich wässrig. Merkwürdiger Erdgeschmack zwischendurch.

If you like peat smoked malts aromas, this is the one for you. Very distinct, if not annoying aromas typical for whisky malts.

Almost clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Big TCP nose, bleh! Palate is light and dry and a little crisp. Big TCP with a little detergent thrown in for good measure. Whisper of something fruity before a dry finish. Long TCP linger. Foul!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle at Chriso’s Christmas tasting, London. It pours a copper body with small white head. It’s ike chewing on a piece of coal were you cooked bacon. Really really intense greasy bacon smoke. Overall, I’m sure I enjoyed this one, not sure how much. Probably very tasty and interesting in small quantities I’d say.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
50cl bulky bottle, cushioned by 4. Upfront: Plastic peat like Laphroaig from a heated picnic cup, with a hint of alkaline mouthwash and turf compose a brachial caveat to the nostrils that alas is not followed up in taste, slumping back into a well-behaved caramel Kellerbier, with slightly lingering notes of singed honey malt, on a thin, soggy palate. Staying power of a modest Kellerbier. Starts with a briny bang, goes out on a whiny whimper. Would have expected a bit more bravado from this excellent brewery to aim for a real crossover style, not just a superficially off-kilter Keller.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. I buried my head in peat and spilled some iodine over it. Only then I discovered I was actually just drinking a beer. Some fruity notes in the flavour try to round things off, whereas the astringency that appears towards the finish adds insult to injury. Well, it’s not the worst one out there but peat malt is such a wonderful ingredient when used with moderation and care.
