3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle at Chriso’s Christmas tasting, London. It pours a copper body with small white head. It’s ike chewing on a piece of coal were you cooked bacon. Really really intense greasy bacon smoke. Overall, I’m sure I enjoyed this one, not sure how much. Probably very tasty and interesting in small quantities I’d say.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
50cl bulky bottle, cushioned by 4. Upfront: Plastic peat like Laphroaig from a heated picnic cup, with a hint of alkaline mouthwash and turf compose a brachial caveat to the nostrils that alas is not followed up in taste, slumping back into a well-behaved caramel Kellerbier, with slightly lingering notes of singed honey malt, on a thin, soggy palate. Staying power of a modest Kellerbier. Starts with a briny bang, goes out on a whiny whimper. Would have expected a bit more bravado from this excellent brewery to aim for a real crossover style, not just a superficially off-kilter Keller.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. I buried my head in peat and spilled some iodine over it. Only then I discovered I was actually just drinking a beer. Some fruity notes in the flavour try to round things off, whereas the astringency that appears towards the finish adds insult to injury. Well, it’s not the worst one out there but peat malt is such a wonderful ingredient when used with moderation and care.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle shared at chriso’s pre-Christmas tasting. Pours clear yellow with a foamy white head. Lots of dry smoke in the nose with a bit of burnt plastic. Light sweet flavor with some pale, sugary bread, a bit of peat, motor oil, hay. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with lots of smokey gasoline character, white sugar, hay, straw, pale bread. So so.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Leicht rauchiger Whisky-Geruch, total torfig-rauchig.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Thanks to bartlebier for sharing this beer with bastarda, Bierle and me.
Light-amber coloured, clear, little head. Very smokey smell, phenolic, plastic, rosmary. Tastes like charcoal and smoke at first, later with a higher drinkability and a very neutral/thin finish.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
courtesy of bartlebier, thank you! Also shared with Bierle and Hugi. Medicinal, harsh smoke aromas fueling some concerns of whether this will be an enjoyable drink but also some excitement. Surprisingly, in an unexciting way, the taste is soft, sweet, flabby with only a faint hint of the smokey nose so proudly, even menacingly displayed. Glad not to empty the bottle alone but with great company.

2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
500ml bottle bought at Die Bierothek in Bamberg, shared with Finn. Close to clear golden-brown coloured body. Low beige head. Rich smoked, or better, peated malty aromas. Rather bland taste of sausages , very disappointing after the inviting aroma. Some brown malts are also included. Nice aroma, rather unpleasant taste. Quite possible to drink in smaller amounts. (at the balcony, Fässla, Bamberg 11.10.2014).
