A massive wall of flavor and so dark it actually absorbs light – at least we think it does! A deeply rich and complex Russian Style Imperial Stout brewed with no less than 10 different malts is the backbone. We brewed this one with oats to add an additional layer of silkiness along with a healthy dose of locally roasted coffee to make this a truly amazing beer. Sip slowly with a friend and enjoy the rich flavors. 1.111 O.G.

Bomber thanks to queenholly, pours a dark thick brown/black with a large reddish tan head. Aroma has a sharp sweetness of chocolate, molasses, and oats. Chocolate and oats go down silky and smooth, lots of malt character with a nice coffee bitterness in the finish. Nice, pretty easy drinking.

The aroma is roast coffee, bitter chocolate. The appearance is deep black, tan head. The flavor is bitter chocolate, coffee, licorice. Hard to believe there’s no coffee added to this. The finish is pine, roast, coffee, licorice. Medium/thick in body. Nice stout. From a Craft Beer gift pack, of all things.

Massive beer. Poured black in the glass with an extremely dark brown two finger head. The nose was dark cherries with some plum. Vinous notes on the nose as well (alcohol), dark bitter coffee and chocolate notes too. The taste was great. Very similar to the nose with the coffee and chocolate being a bit more present. The alcohol presented in the taste the same as the nose, came across in a vinous note. Tremendous body. Very thick and velvety, courtesy of the oats. This was a 12.2% beast and was deliciously smooth for being fresh! Thanks for the awesome extra Tom! (mashmaster)

Bottle (thanks Ed H) and served in snifter to celebrate New Year with my Pac Beer Bros: Pours opaque with a fading head and spotty lace. The aroma has big mocha, big booze, big roasty, big charred, big espresso and pretty nice resiny hop presence too. The taste matches the nose with brash malt, hop, and alcohol combination that works oh so well, the bittersweet character of this beer is exquisite. Nice meaty smoky undertone too. The mouth feel is a tad thin for an Oatmeal Stout but then methinks the added coffee could be to blame for that. This overall rox sox and I love the layers I get as it warms. I could drink this once a week 4 sure.

Bottle: thanks, Jim! Super deep brown, nearly black body with a nice & chunky mocha foam on top. Aroma is very nice; notes of muted bakers chocolate, fudge, milky sweetness, faint lactose, a light hint of licorice, & some nuttiness. Taste has nice notes of dark chocolate, bittersweet fudge, oats, light molasses, & a finishing hint of licorice. Sweet finish with a touch of roasty bitterness & a touch of coffee beans. Nice body, smooth for 12% ABV.

Dark brown to black pout with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of coffee and chocolate notes. The flavor is similar with some coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt and oats coming through. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Good stout.

2013 release. Pours total black, with a bit of caramel head. Big coffee, and oat texture on the nose, with a touch of roast malt character. Very thick across the palate. Lots of dark coffee, roasted malt and oat texture. Very heavy, but still good.

3 Nov 2013, tap at Ritual Brewery. Black. Nose is coffee and maybe maple syrup. Med body and fizzy. Carbonation burns the tongue a bit. There are lemon hops, coffee beans, syrup, moderate alcohol. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2014 GABF 2013. Deep black, with coffee crema looking head and lacing. Dark roasted and burnt malts. Round body, nice burnt malt and hop bitterness. Solid RIS. Rerate from a bomber. About two years old. Has aged well. Actually liked this better than the fresh draft. Thick pour, especially for an oatmeal stout. Very dark with espresso crema head. Lots of dark roast and burnt malts, molasses, touch of anise on the nose. Thick palate with a lot of burnt malts but enough sweetness to balance it out. Bit of booze on the nose and going down.
