Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

First of all I would not classify this as a traditional lager. But maybe thats just me. Mild taste of hops, but not offensive. Good amount of carbonation. Easy to enjoy. Glad it is finally available by the can (tall boy). MB

Bottle. Pours a nice Amber colour. Aroma. what i can best describe as a light caramel aroma. Taste. caramel, citrusy bitterness and raisins is what i can best describe it as. Overall. Quite a good solid beer, the marketing description i feel has described the beer better then i’ve been able to.

Decent beer. One of my standards for use in cooking chili. I always like to keep a sixer in fridge at all times.

Full-flavored with a mildly sweet, slightly rye-like hop flavor, particularly in the mouthfeel. My new favorite.

I can’t believe I’ve never rated this; this may have been the first craft beer I ever tasted back in the very early 1990s. On the other hand, I probably haven’t had a bottle since I joined ratebeer a decade ago. In the old days it was always on tap (and too expensive to buy, usually) but tonight I it was from the bottle. Amber pour, decent head. Malty, decent hop profile, some baking yeast on the nose. Pretty darn adequate and better than I expected.

Pours clear red minimum head. Lighter tasting ale with a nice blend of hops and grain.

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Nice resin hop aromas with a hint of citrus in the nose as well as a bit of caramel. Very well-balanced. Creamy mouthfeel with a medium light body. Nice crisp and refreshing finish.

Nice clear golden looks with solid white foam head. A bit malty slight sweet smell. The taste is malty sweet, round and creamy, calm and a little boring. The carbonation is rather light. Surprisingly solid beer, but it will not trigger an epiphany or any form of larger amazement.
