DandyWolfFloyd (249), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA May 14, 2008 This was a rather interesting brew. It’s aroma was rather muted, but malt and sweet fruit seemed to peak through. It’s appearance was gorgeous, with a dark amber body, and decadent fluffy head. It’s flavor was sweet malt, and alcohol. There also appeared to be some sweet fruit. It’s a bit rough at the end, not so smooth. Not sure, but am I supposed to be experiencing an unfiltrated beer? It did have yeast present, which I did not expect. This made the experience a little awkward. pint_size (1004), Austin, Texas, USA May 2, 2008 4-6-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to kramer12801
Clear red brown in color with no lasting head. Smell is sweet and has some thin roasted elements. Flavor is watery and weak sweet maple malt. Thin with an average carbonation. Just bland overall. lb4lb (1452), Austin, Texas, USA Apr 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of kramer17801. Thanks!
pours a rich maroon color with a light offwhite head. Smell is mild dark toasty malt. Very bland overall with not much but light malt and bubbles. No real belgian character to it at all. I guess it does hide the alcohol very well, but this was incredibly muted flavorwise. WISEGUY572 (1123), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2008 Their attempt at a big Belgian grand cru, maybe a Chimay Blue, and it works better than some of the reviewers give it credit for. Big reddish brown pour, some lacing. Nose of dark fruits, dried fruits, chocolate, yeast. Taste matches nose, but maybe a bit sweet and cloying, without having the big mouth feel of a grand cru. Warm alcohol and hops in the finish. wheninhell (478), louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 30, 2008 dark brown with a disappearing white head. light toffee raisin light chocolate aroma with a hint of grain. sweet light chocolate toffee raisin flavor sweet light weak watery finish. weak thin body. nonexistent carbonation. just not so good......not horrible...but not so good.
