THOUGHTS: Nice beer, but I’ve had several imperial pumpkins that were better. It did hide the alcohol very well. The spices were a nice accent piece without dominating the flavor. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, medium to dark brownish orange with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma had moderate to heavy, molasses and caramel; brown sugar; slight alcohol; pumpkin pie spices and cider. The initial flavor was sweet and slightly acetic; while the finish was light to moderately sweet. There was pumpkin pie spices, caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, molasses and cider. The medium body was rather dry with carbonation that was a bit soft, but tingly with an ever so slightly alcoholic finish.

Thin off white head of fine bubbles that reduces to a dense cremy foam. Lots of pumpkin and spices in the aroma. Some bready malts and ginger. Color is a cloudy copper. Flavor has lots of spices. Kind of chalky mouthfeel. Rather thick palate with lots of chewey malts and some caramel. Light alcohol presence late swallow but not all that noticable. A pretty good pumpkin brew.

Amber-orange color with a faint head. Very spicy aroma, although not entirely typical pumpkin spices. Flavor is dry and spicy with a strong alcoholic taste. Gets better and more mellow as it warms, but not enough to make this enjoyable.

Pours a slightly thickened light to medium orange with a nice off white head. A bit of lacing as it goes down. Nose is caramel, brown sugar, hints of cream, and plenty of pumpkin spices. Taste is the same with the more traditional, non-spice flavors taking the front seat. Well balanced. Mouthfeel is medium and a bit creamy. Drinkability gets a higher score as this really goes down well and is one of only a few pumpkins beers that I can actually drink twelve ounces of. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-28-2010

Bottle:   Deep amber, hazy, moderate foamy tannish head, nice lacing.   Somewhat of a squash pumpkin pie like nose.   Spicy, but not heavy.   Some crust and pumpkin pie filling aromas dominate.   Subtle pumpkin pie flavor on the tongue.   This is pretty tasty, and actually more pumpkin oriented than most.   Its like a muted down Pumking.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   This one tastes authentic, not just a bunch of spices thrown in to a beer.   I can dig this one, spicy, but not overly done.   Decent malt base.   Yeah, this is is good.   Thanks Jeff for the bottle!

Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy copper orange with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel malt and fresh pumpkin with a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Starts with good fullness and rich sweet caramel and toffee with good pumpkin flavor and spice balance before a slightly drier biscuity finish. An enjoyable, complex and well-balanced pumpkin ale.

Very hazy orange coloured body with a burnt amber glow and a very thin, oily tan head. Aroma of VERY pungent pumpkin, a lot of alcohol, some spices (nutmeg and allspice are potent) and a bit of sweetness is noticeable. Full-bodied; Deep, pungent, biting pumpkin flavour that shows up almost as a food and not a drink - a lot of malt in here and a dense, chewy mouthful. Aftertaste has some spices, but a lot of pumpkin, some sweetness and a strong alcohol warmth. Overall, this is a very potent beer with some good flavours, but not amazing. If you want a deep beer experience that borders on a meal - you’ve got it right here. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle (as part of a six pack) purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 10-October-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 22-November-2010.
