3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a hazy deep amber with golden notes and a bubbly off white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, american ale yeast, kind of smells like a 120 Minute IPA, tropical fruits and sweet citrusy notes. Flavor of the same malty sweet caramel malt, some light pine and grapefruit, hop bitterness is there but is fighting the malt sweetness too much. Some toasted malt and if they made hop hard candy caramels they would taste like this. An ok double ipa, that could benefit from a heavy dose of dry hopping and less sweetness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours an orange-amberish color with a small head. Resinous and grapefruit peel in the aroma. A pretty nice hint of caramel also. Flavor is really hoppy and nice. Christmas tree sap, citrus peel and a nice balancing dose of malt.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from a New Jerseyan coworker. Pours hazy dark straw with off-white head. Nose is malty, heavily resiny hoppy, with some citrus, peppery, and fruity notes. Tastes very hoppy, with a solid malt bill, and some peppery, tangerine, and a twinge of an off plastic flavor in the first bottle which did not reappear in the other 3 of the 4-pack. I agree with the prior rater who stated that the flavors just donít seem to gel together quite as well as they should, but that is a relatively minor beef.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Light tan medium statured head with decent retention and a small amount of stringy lace. Hazy amber/orange color. Nose is light grapefruit, caramel malts, light melon notes and a hint of alcohol as it warms up. Med/full body, fairly well carbonated, lightly oily on the palate, tinny, resiny. Flavors follow suit with the aroma along with some metallic notes, orangey and fruity. Malts are way in the background though lightly sweet and grainy. Big bittering hops in the flavor and finish. A pretty manly DIPA from these guys, unexpected! Surprisingly aggressive for an east coast DIPA. Props to RH for going for it! Bottle procured @statelineliquors.

Cask at Rattle N Hum. I love my hoppy beers on cask, makes them really pop and this was no exception. Does pour an odd murky iced tea color, nose is super fresh hops, not super resiny but definitely very nice. Some citrus and some herbal qualities, kind of like good German hops. On taste, big body props up the robust hop character. You donít taste much malt at all, but the body sure is present and dries out very well. A great find for my first NJ beer.

Yup, itís unfiltered, but kind of a comforting muddy brown, like terrible iced tea but in this case it works. Pleasant hoppy aroma, nice IPA taste. Doesnít hit you over the head. A pretty good offering from River Horse.

Bottle. Pours an orange copper body with a white head. Pine, citrus, hints of grapefruit and grass. Sweet malty character comes across almost fruity. Mild etoh warming. A significant improvement for RH.

Cask at RnH. Poured copper amber with a thin head. Wonderful fresh sweet hops in the aroma. A citrus and tropical fruit delight. The flavor has floral and citric hops, with some candy sweetness and a dash of tropical fruit. Very good.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Down Beach Liquors, 8/24/09, bottle was 8.5% ABV
**Just added the Commercial Description, it was funny, and so I thought it needed to be on this site.
Aroma: Fairly muted, not much hops here unfortunately, some citrus, light, but not bad
Appearance: Hazy orange-brown color, about an inch of lasting off-white head, quite a bit of lacing on the glass as well
Flavor: Flavor is mostly bitter hops with some slightly off citrus flavors that just donít work quite right
Palate: Nice medium-full body, creamy and solid mouthfeel, just a touch of alcohol burn
With as many good ones as there are out there (every brewery is making hop bombs these days), if your trying to make a IIPA, youíve got to do better then this...
I really felt that this beer was just a bit lacking, from the subdued nose to the flavor that was decent, but just a bit off, this beer just doesnít quite hit the mark. Even from a style I love, and a great looking beer, with a nice body and mouthfeel, it just wasnít everything it could have been. Have to admit, it grew on me just a touch as I drank it (probably had the taste at a 5 after half the beer), so maybe it would grown on me more if I have it again? Solid and drinkable, but not a top notch DIPA.
