The fabled Hop-a-lot-amus is a mythical creature. The heavy hop character of this Double IPA is as subtle as a "river horse" in your lap, but finishes like a hippo in a tutu. Enjoy! 93 IBUs

Pours deep gold into a Sam glass. Pancake head with medium retention recedes leaving sticky spiders. Earthy hop and tart citrus aromas. Medium bodied with sweet caramel and sourdough upfront turning to sweet pine and citrus in the lasting finish.

A- Pours a nice orangey hue with a 2 finger, frothy, eggshell head that leaves lots of lacing as it dissipates. S- A bouquet of citrus, wheaty grains, grapefruit. T- Bready with a huge wave of grapefruit that overtakes the palate and finishes pretty bitter. M- Medium to full bodied with a good amount of carbonation. D- Definitely an underrated beer in my opinion. This is exactly the direction I love my DIPAs to go, lots of grapefruit hops, bitter finish, malt doesn’t come to the front end at all.

Poured from a 12oz bottle. Aroma is somewhat muted but there is some tropical fruit, citrus and resin. Medium light caramel note with some cracker and biscuit as well. Definitely not as hoppy as I would prefer. Pours a fairly clear copper color with some amber and orange highlights; this is pretty dark for an IPA. Thick, slightly tan head with pretty good retention. Moderate lacing and mid sized legs. Flavor has a medium sweetness to it with quite a bit of malt character - toasted bread, caramel, cracker and biscuit. Moderately strong bitterness helps dry it out a bit. Faint buttery note. Not much hop flavor; some light tropical fruit, medium light citrus and pine resin. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty boring IPA without much hop flavor or aroma. This is pretty on point for what I think of when I picture East Coast IPAs. The malt character is too dark as well.

Dark amber in the glass, nice intense floral hop aroma. The beer starts very floral, lots of hop aroma. The mainpart is very intense, not too sweet, nicely hopped. Bitter pine aroma together with fragile floral hops, nice bitterness and a not too sweet body. The aftertaste is long, intense floral hoppy, smooth sweet-malty body and nicely bitter.
A very nice and balanced Double IPA - and even for the 8.5% not too sweet. Great brew! --> 13/12/12/12

It has a nice dark amber color, good aroma with overly bitter taste. It could be a bit more well balanced. Strong amount of carbonation with good head retention.

Pen & Paper Log (Jul 2012) Aroma - a malty aroma with deep hop resin aroma, some caramel and citrus Appearance - is a cloudy amber body, with a fluffy white head. The head holds up for a while and gives a little lacing as well. Taste - the beer is definitely piney, some caramel and some citrus Palate - body is medium, texture slick and oily, rather bitter finish.

Courtesy my Secret Santa. Thanks man! Aroma was of cheap ale. Stale malt with notes of terpentine and light hops. Pour was a nice enough murky burnt orange with a thing off white film for a head. Taste was OK. Cheap tasting, with iced tea, plastic and sterile caramel. A little hot from the alcohol and a a tad astringent. Nice carbonation. Too much off flavors in this beer.

Pours a hazy deep orange color with a decent amount of head that dissipates quickly. To be expected from 8.5% ABV. Aroma smells of roasted fruits. And alcohol. Orange and tangerine. I also get a lot of sweetness from the malts. Taste up front I get a sweet malt character, and a great resiny hop flavor. Again, I get a strong roasted fruit like burn from the alcohol, they didn't hide it very well in this beer. Overall, it's a good DIPA. But I've had much better.

Cloudy, dark amber with decent lacing head. Floral aroma with hint of citrus and malts. Based on the aroma was expecting a bit of a malt bomb, but is actually quite balanced. Nice floral and subtle citrus notes. Slick mouthfeel. Slightly bitter finish. Big, full mouthfeel.
