Appearance is top notch. Nice dark pour with a tan head. Smell is pretty good, can sense the roasted malt and lactose. Mouthfeel is a little too carbonated, but creamy. The drink was a little harsher than I thought itíd be, expected more smoothness. Still good though.

Draft at Eulogy. Black pour. Soft beige foam on top that dies to a lasting ring. Feels quite thin to start with (for an oatmeal stout.) Grows thicker as it warms. Some coffee chocolate cookies. Soft milky vanilla cream. Reddish brown fruit. Figs. Molasses. Some ascetic notes in the nose. Darkly sweet but a nice sudden dry spicy finish. Missing complex stout flavors, but otherwise not so bad.

12 oz. bottle from trade with Crajun. Pours black as night with a thin tan head . Aroma of roast malt and sweet lactose. Thick and creamy on the palate. Flavor of roasty oats, some burnt malt and lots of sweet sugar with an abrupt bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Undated bottle, from the 2013 release though.
Appearance: The pour is pitch black and the body is equally as so. A tall, neat and dense brown head rises from the black body and sticks around for a bit for a nice presentation.
Aroma: The aroma is mild with some carbonic acid. Creamer is noticed along with hints of roast and bittersweet chocolate. The aroma is a bit muted and blurred.
Taste: This tastes better than it smells. I get a solid malt base of bittersweet chocolate with roast becoming prominent by the finish. Lactose sweetness runs through, but thereís a mild astringency throughout as well. The finish lingers of a roasty bitterness.
Palate: Nearly full-bodied, a bit light. Carbonation is a bit too present.
Overall: I donít find myself looking to buy this again, especially when Left Hand does it cheaper and better. Why is this a $12 six pack to begin with? Itís only traveled a few hours and itís no more expensive to brew than their other beers which are more reasonably priced. I donít get it.

Bottle, cheers to eelbasher! The pourís deep brown with a tight tan head. The nose is sweet coffee and caramel ice cream. Light cinnamon heat, toasted nuts. Melted coffee ice cream flavors. Hints of raisins. Dark chocolate. Light body, effervescent carbonation. Tasty stuff.

Pretty good oatmeal stout from a local swap! Poured a medium almond brown that had hints of oatmeal with a back taste of milk. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours tar black with no head. Aroma of roasted malt, lactose, oats, and mocha. Nice balance of oat, lactose, roasted malt, and chocolate. Creamy body. Nice beer.

DATE TASTED: February 8, 2014... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith pint...OCCASION: the reading of A Storm of Swords begins... APPEARANCE: jet black body; unenthused thin brown head; tracings are basically sporadic bubbles... AROMA: some peat and smoke, but predominantly a strange combination: lactic, doughy malts and vanilla sugars argue with strikingly astringent turpentine chemicals--a challenge to take in... PALATE: medium-bodied, slightly dry; rather flat up front, with a beefy after breath ...TASTE: milky, yet the alcohol seems to impede a smoother flavor; some rum elements mingle with a plasticine undertone... OVERALL: This seems a forced attempt at steeping ABV at the cost of taste and experience; River Horse does Jersey proud with some offerings, but this brew is negatively aggressive--upon completing this review, I drank a second and only found the beer more troublesome to place in a positive light....

Recd from ed5388 as part of local swaps 5.2. Limited experience with this style but I have several I will try in next few weeks. Pleasantly surprised. Aroma is subdued but has roast and chocolate dark pour taste is a combo of milk stout and oat stout. Had milk chocolate and roast plus the smooth oats. Slight odd taste at end of sip lactic? Thx Ed. Good start to my tests of this style

(bottle) Pours a black complexion with minimal tan head. The aroma is well roasted malts with some coffee beans. The flavor is a nice hybrid between the oatmeal and milk stout styles as both are apparent. Smooth palate. Well done by brewer.

Pours almost black, short lived mocha head. Aroma of sweet malt, touch of charred oak. The taste is both sweet and roasty, not much going on, a little milk chocolate and coffee hints. The palate is a little thin with medium carb but, smooth and drinkable. Pretty nice milk stout but missing something.
