COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: this beer is now an amber ale, and the ABV has gone up from 4.5 to 5.5%. Special Ale is our flagship ESB. It’s been with us from the start and hasn’t changed since that first brew way back in 1996. Ample quantities of caramel malt give this English ale a soft copper hue and the colorful addition of carapils malt adds a slight sweetness you might mistake for honey.

Pours a dark amber with a weak off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is full of caramel with some butterscotch hints. Taste starts out with a warming sweet that quickly goes to a slightly bitter and dry finish - nothing overwhelming. This is a little thicker than one would expect. A nice medium mouthfeel with some carbonation. Overall, this is one of my regular beers. I would have expected to rate it higher, but the numbers work out. There is nothing exception about the ESA, it is just a decent beer.

Opaque dark brown. Nice hoppy smell and taste. Caramel and candy bar tasting. In my opinion this is a good winter ale. First beer from this brewery, and not a bad start at all.

This american amber won’t excite hop-heads, but I find the malty sweetness to be delicious. It’s a medium gold color with a modest head of foam. The nose doesn’t have much complexity and the taste is rather straight forward (with the malts shining). Great session beer.

Dark amber, malt aroma with some fruits. Bland but ok. Grew on me as I drank it. Sweetness was nice but body was a listless. Like the profile and the malt backbone.

Pours a cloudy brownish amber with a medium beige lasting head, some light lacing. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, barley, light fruity notes. Taste of toasted caramel malt, yeast, light fruity with some mild earthy hops. Palate isa medium body, slightly sticky mouth feel, mild carbonation. Finish is sweet toasted caramel malt, yeast with some mild earthy hops bitterness for balance with a bit of caramel nutty aftertaste. Overall a good enjoyable brew.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle thanks to RamyG4. Pours a dark, somewhat hazy amber color with a biege head of foam that starts at about one finger width, and dissipates down to just a thin layer. The aroma is malt forward with some woody, slightly nutty aromas wafting from the glass. The taste has some mild bitterness, a dull sweetness on the backend, and a woody taste sticks to the lips. Very light on the palate. Decent mouthfeel.
