4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
By far my favorite beer from this brewery. Nice orange tint with a strong fruit nose. Good carbonation and full bodied. If you’re a Belgian style fan then this is a must try.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From the tap, the pour is cloudy dark burnt orange in color with a think cream head that dissipates slowly, the aroma is fruity with Belgian notes, the taste is citrus hops and Belgian, and the finish is peppery and the mouthfeel is full.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark golden color with a frothy white head. Strong, yeasty aroma with hops and citrus as well. Belgiany taste with a citrus finish. Hops lingering. Pretty interesting brew. But I like it.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance is clear light golden, with a small, thick bubbled head that diss appeared immediately. Aroma is dominated by fruity Belgian yeast. For a double IPA the hop aroma is almost nonexistent, with a slight grapefruit and resin. Taste is a light malt that gives way to a strong, tart grapefruit taste, with hints of apple and pear from the yeast. Mouthfeel is light with low carbonation and a slight solventy alcohol. Finishes with a strong lingering bitterness and grapefruit flavor. Subpar version of what it’s supposed to be. Not sure how this is 130 IBU. Tastes like 60 max.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing.
Body is light amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, toasted grain), moderately hoppy (apricot, grapefruit), with notes of sour apple, bile, bubble gum, cotton candy, alcohol.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean.
Medium to full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic.
Another poorly made beer from River North. This pretty much ends my exploration of them. I was lured into thinking they’d had across-the-board improvements since 2012, but only Avarice, Quandary, and Tripel are decent (plus the two anniversary one-offs)...everything else is still scoring in the 2s for me, sadly. Maybe in two more years they’ll get the remaining problems solved; sure hope so.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bomber into tulip. Light cloudy orange with thin ecru foam. Yeast-driven aromas evoke bubblegum, banana and cantaloupe, blue curacao, and the talc/rubber smell of latex balloons. Super malty, a dizzying vomitfest of cloying tropical fruit, cigar ash and tire store... with a backdrop of steak turing iridescent and slimy. Boozy. Citrusy hop bitterness, but not all that more hoppy than a tripel. Unsettling texture, it felt like hair in my mouth. Seriously, HAIR! Pithy and plasticy aftertaste. IMO, banana and cataloupe are two of the least attractive Belgian flavor profiles, and probably the worst flavors to throw a ton of hops at. Everything about this beer seemed amateurish, cheap and haphazard. Unbelievably bad.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A hazed, sunny amber body supports a frothy smooth, two inch white head slowly falling to a thick, frothy ring and island with leopard lace and erratic peninsulas all around
Integrated aromatics and flavors of juicy pineapple, white pepper, bright grass, grapefruit, dusty lush floral, peaches, and dried mango accents, all booming over a silky smooth, drying medium body with restrained tickling carbonation leading to an extended, equally flavorful residual with a light, building tact
22oz bottle from launch day in KC, served at 45º and warming into Orrefors Beer Taster

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Definitely a Belgian leaning Belgian IPA...more yeasty and fruity than hoppy, though there is ample hops and bittering. Very dry and earthy with fruity blasts from both the yeast and the citrusy hops. A little funk, too. Very nice
