2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 TAR (2346) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - MAY 23, 2012UPDATED: MAY 25, 2012 Draught snifter at Vine Street Pub: Toasted orange. Fragmented eggshell foam. Horrendously off-putting and artificial-smelling odors of gummy candy, applesauce, custard, butterscotch, bath soap, grape bubblegum. Light-bodied with edgy carbonation. Semi-dry and firm with an early crackery malt surge swirled with a tarnishing applesauce flab. Underattenuated yeasty rancidity imparts mucky notes of dirty dish rag and circus peanuts. Discordant flavors of buttery dandelion and a gummy candy slickness muddle the center. Sugary sweetness steadily heightens as the pear syrup and Red Delicious apple gain steam. Poorly masked alcohol combines with the malt to create a honey-soaked poundcake effect. Malt is on the haylike/toasty/biscuity side, but also is quite husky and grainy. Finishes puttylike in its yeastiness with an overemphasized spicy fervency from excessive adjuncts. A very unclean and aimless rendition. Calling this a saison makes my heart hurt. But regardless of stylistic guidelines, this is just plain foul.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bhensonb (8995) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 13, 2013
Bomber from LetsPour.com. Pours a dark rather orange gold with a transient white head. Not getting much out of the nose, except some mild spicy citrus. Med body. Flavor is very Belgian yeast/fruity ester. To taste it is to know it’s Belgian. There are some very earthy aspects to it. And it’s also rather citrus. It’s a bit heavy for a saison, perhaps, but I have no idea why it has a low rating.

pours cloudy orange gold with small off white head. Aroma of lemon, tart wheat, grain, soft fruitiness. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Flavor is lemony, with light spices and wheat, and a grainy finish. Not bad, but expect a bit more complexity from a saison.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 theisti (2821) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - AUG 12, 2012
22 oz bomber purchased at Joy in Denver, Colorado. The pour is a hazy golden orange with a smallish off white head. The aroma is faint wheat grain, generic ester and clove yeast, and a decent blast of sweetness, somewhat artificial sweetness. The taste follows the nose, mostly about the weird sweetness and the esters of the yeast, though the grain and wheat to poke through a bit. The palate is medium bodied, soft natural carbonation, sweetness in the finish. When American Saisons miss, they normally miss like this. Overall, just ok.
