3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
1 Litre growler at the brewery.
Jet black color with a nice one finger light mocha colored head. Good body to the head and holds up quite well. Good spotty lacing.
Earthy coffee with chocolate and slight amounts of licorice and brown sugar.
Coffee, chocolate, caramel, earth, and brown sugar taste. Good amount of hop bitterness.
A bit over carbonated but was warned that this batch was a bit too carbed. So noted. Lots of caramel in the mid and back palate. Slightly sweet and slick. A couple of thin spots but it does work out well. Well hidden ABV. Sweet coffee and slightly grainy finish.
Good, solid porter. Nothing fancy and that is fine.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330mL bottle. Pours jet black with a very small mocha head and a lightly charred toffee aroma. Flavour is dominated by treacle/charred toffee as well as a light espresso coffee. If you like a traditional porter this is for you although if you prefer something a little out of left field this might not be for you.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Light pffft as the cap releases followed by a burst of damp top soil, lightly roasted coffee beans and bitter dark chocolate. In the glass the nose also offers up a touch of marzipan, cola soda, charred red wood and peppery spice. Settles close to black with ruby shining through in the shallows. Sloppy, thick-set mess of foam atop is lasting and leaves a very fine lace. Much lighter in body than expected with light carbonation and an earthy and dry, smoky, burnt malt finish. Milk chocolate front with a malty, mocha mid-palate and peppery hop and bitter malt backend. Cigarette ash and a taste reminiscent of a bonfire as it fizzles out remains long after each sip. This one sits a little heavy in the stomach so a session ale it is not. A likeable brew though, but one was enough! (33cL, fresh batch, no date stamp, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, thanks to MrKennedy. Black with a lasting beige head that laces well. Lightly roasted aroma with mocha, hazelnuts, light floral notes. Silky texture. Sweet mocha, slightly more roasted flavours than suggested by the aroma, bitterness kept creeping up at the end. The sweetness is a little suffocating of the other things going on, but a pretty fair drop.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle from Warners at the Bay Bottleshop. Deep dark black colour with a crisp tan head. Looks like this beer has a good strong body. There are chocolate, coffee and vanilla aromas which are strong. The flavour is good and the beer is lighter in the mouth than expected.
