3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JStax (1724) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - JAN 29, 2013Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a darker, translucent brown with a bubbly beige head of foam. No retention. The aroma is oddly metalic with some nuts and mild esters trying to come through. The taste is a little more active with the clove and banana esters coming through nicely. This beer actually does taste pretty good. Nice level of carbonation. Overall, it isn’t too bad.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 nimbleprop (3063) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAY 1, 2013
12oz bottle pours a opaque deep brown with some creamy, off white head. Nose is drenched in pitted fruit, plum, prune, raisin, dark bread, rum, candy sugar, a little malt vinegar, some dried cherry. Flavor is interesting, bread crust, light smoke, earthy, dirty parsnip, flat cola, a little wheat chaff, some dried cherry, prune. Watery finish.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 weihenweizen (1198) - Charleston Area, West Virginia, USA - FEB 26, 2013
Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours dark brown with off-white head which dissapates quickly. Little lacing, medium/low carbonation, and light sweet banana aroma. Taste is some banana, light roasted malt, and a hint of milk chocolate. Pretty easy to drink, but needs more flavor.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 douglas88 (4598) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - JAN 18, 2013
12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium white head. A sweet nose of toffee and caramel. Very light flavors of caramel, earthy, banana, some coffee perhaps? Pretty sweet. Thin. OK.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 obguthr (3234) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - JAN 10, 2013
Bottle from b3shine: Aroma is raisins, babyfood, and a bit of barnyard. Cloudy brown, thin tan head. Vegetal and astringent, wood and soot discernible, black currants. Not wonderful.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Chuckaduck (507) - Kentucky, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Pours a dark brown color with a thin light-brown head. Aroma is roast malt, some sour fruitiness, hints of cocoa. Taste is similar with the fruit notes becoming most prominent and adding in a tangy tartness. This really caught me off guard but I didn’t dislike it. The fruitiness was interesting and probably the only thing that made this beer memorable. I can at least appreciate that.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 phaleslu (4528) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Draft at the brewery. Pours a hazed nut brown color, on the darker side, with a small off-white head that settles into a ring and a small spot of film. Aroma of banana bread, toasted nuts and wheat, and chocolate. Flavor is pretty much the same slate of notes. Light-bodied, with modest carbonation and a smooth, thin mouthfeel. Goes down easy. Good dunkelweizen.
2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 brewsandfutbal (12) - Ohio, USA - JAN 4, 2013
Don’t know exactly what they were looking for in this brew. Had a weird astringent flavor and something off-putting. Didn’t taste like any dunkelweizen I have had before. Hints of typical german yeast strain but again has a weird off flavor, maybe it was a bad batch?
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Brigadier (2275) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - DEC 31, 2012
12 ounce bottle
As expected this was a little bit of a letdown. I keep giving Rivertown a chance and I don’t know why. This was pretty par for the course. Skip it unless you are a completist who must try everything.
Aroma / Appearance - The rich black fluid base pours like a porter but looks more like a deep IPA. The eggshell head collapses to reveal active carbonation on the fringes. Rye, ripe bananas, and light chocolate feel all over the place with no purpose.
Flavor / Palate - Watery bananas, coffee, and chocolate flakes are tasty but somehow unconvincing. The short halflife before it fades to nothingness makes it tough to pin down the goal here. It is ultimately a forgettable experience.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JaBier (3945) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - DEC 27, 2012
Bottle purchased at Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Brown pour with a medium tan head. Banana and caramel in the nose along with some roast. Banana and clove flavor with caramel and a bit of roast before a tart finish.
