3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap in Bellevue (KY)
You never know what you might get with Rivertown. This one actually works out well. A refreshing, if high gravity, wheat beer is full of hops, flavor, and depth. One was certainly enough but if I had to choose one Rivertown beer to drink again this would be near the top of the list.
Aroma / Appearance - A flat bronze base lacks much carbonation. Some legs betray the high gravity within. Citrus, thickly glazed cheesecake with crunchy bits of sugar, honey, and wheat are dense. Bound together with malts and hops the total package is potent.
Flavor / Palate - Lemon crisp and wheat bread tickle the tongue. Soon after the ABV paints the tongue with its boozy feel. Resiny hops, cereal grains, and a splash of fresh lemonade are all aspects of a recipe that works well. For once Rivertown has made a beer that is worth drinking alone or with friends and not because you want less to drink yourself.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Dutch’s a couple months back. Pours a clear yellow gold color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor had herbal and floral hops that create a mild bitterness. Grainy pale malts and a slight fruity note. The alcohol is almost non existent which could be dangerous for a 10.2% beer. It just doesn’t have enough aroma/flavor character to cause me to want to drink more.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap sample. Poured a clear pale color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate balanced aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Soft brew.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft - corn or grain. Slightly floral aftertaste. Different for Rivertown. Fairly easy to drink. Refreshing.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft in a sampler at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a pale, clear gold with no head. Aroma of pale, bready, crackery malts, and some sweetness from what seems like overripe fruits. Flavor of pale, bready, and sweet malts, straw, and a hint of dried fruit. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, sweet, subtly bitter mouthfeel. Sneaky 10.2% ABV in this one; dangerous in that sense. So the positive I take from it is that it’s not abrasive. But I’m just not a fan of the style.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap. Mostly clear golden color. Thin white head. Good dots and splotches of lace. Medium to bigger body, light compared to your typical 10% beer. Smooth, more crisp lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Some corn grains, bread. Lightly peppery, little bit of grassy hop. Hint of citrus. Taste is moderate sweet, light bitter, with some alcohol warmth and sweetness in the finish, but it’s impressively well-hidden for a 10.2% imperial pilsner. Doesn’t bite or burn. Flavor isn’t incredibly inspiring, not all that much to it, the impressive part of this is how it somehow manages to be so strong. Not particularly great, but it seems to accomplish what it set out to do (which is to be a really strong pilsner)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft to taster. Looks good for the style; a transparent deep gold with white lacing. Smells solid; doughy and lightly hoppy with a well-balanced pilsner malt backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Not much of a pilsner snap, but good nonetheless.
