COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Per the bottle, "Unlike conventional ales and lagers which are fermented by carefully cultivated strains of brewers yeast, Ojos Negros is instead produced by exposing it to the wild yeasts and bacteria that are native to the Senne Valley, of Brussels Belgium. It is this unusual process involving over a year of fermentation, and over 130 pounds of Fresh Whole Blackberries which gives this beer its distinctive flavor: Semi sweet, vinous, fruity and cidery with a crisp tart aftertaste." According to one of the brewers, it is their Lambic (agen in oak wine barrels) with blackberries added.

Vintage 2011 pours a reddish brown with a thin light pink head. Aroma is funky, tart raspberries , lots of vinegar, acidic , smells very tart, sharp on the nostrils. Taste is tart raspberries , tart green apple skins, vinegar , good sweet and tart balance, gives a dry mouth puckering finish. Very good.

750ml bottle shared at tasting. Grape juice filtered orange body. Nice steady, smooth sour tones. Quite nice, very tasty. Delicious, sort of exceeded my expectations in that the sour doesn’t come off unruly or infected. Delicious blackberry tones. Never overly thick, easy on the palate.

750 ml. 2013 vintage. Pours a murky chestnut color with a maroon tinge. A small film and ring of cream endures to the end. Big aroma of tart berries with some funk, merlot, oak, and touches of fig and brown sugar. Tastes are along the same lines, but sharper with the berries more noticeable and some hints of oxidation. Near-medium body is refreshing, thin and mildly astringent. Medium carbonation provides a pleasant little tingle without becoming annoying. I really like how this one lets the blackberries take the spotlight.

Bottle: 2012. Lighter, red-tinted copper & amber, mostly opaque with a slightly off-white head, quickly reduced to a collar. Sweaty oak aroma with mild horsey funk, slightly acidic raspberry (more so than blackberry, really) with some sweetness & a touch of lemon-lime. Relatively mild. Taste with moderately sweet & only lightly tart berry notes. Vague berry, again, almost more raspberry-ish than blackberry. Lots of wet oak, sweet lemon-lime, musty wet bales of hay. Tiny bit of tartness towards the finish, but far from "sour". Finishing sweet berries, sweaty oak, & dry hay. A good raspberry ale, but it needs a little more depth of flavors to be really great.

Bottle... Pours hazy and amber with a brief white head. The aroma is a marriage of fruity berries and raw white oak. Medium-bodied with busy carbonation. Lightly tart berries really stand out in the flavor. Tangy, fruity finish. Bottle courtesy of growler!

22 oz bottle. Vintage 2012. (Dutch’s) Cincinnati, OH. Cloudy orangey amber colour with a tiny white head. The aroma is mouth-watering sourness, berry tartness and mild apples. The flavour is tartness, apple, mild sourness, yeast and malt. Very tasty. Very nice surprise. Thanks to the guy in Dutch’s for choosing this one for me.

650 ml bottle. Vintage 2012. Thanks rosenbergh. Pours a dark orange colour with a small head. Aroma of rich tart blackberries, some vanilla fudge and rowanberries. Flavour of crisp tart blackberries, white bread, mild caramel sweetness, tart wooden notes, red berries and some herbal notes. Medium bodied with long, sharp, tart and berryish finish. This should be listed as a sour ale, though.

65 cl bottle. Vintage 2012. Thanks rosenbergh!
Pours clear golden-copper color with a small head. Nice rose-hip aroma, sour fruit notes, apricot, yeast and herbs. Fruity flavor (sour at that), rose hip, rowan berries, gooseberries and grass, some vinous notes, maybe some raspberries. Dry sour palate, crisp. Definitely a positive surprise. Very tasty. Not a Lambic though, should be a Sour/Wild Ale.

22 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of oak wine barrels, followed by blackberries, and a touch of funk. Flavour is quite complex, with lots of vinous notes, red wine vinegar, oak and finally tart blackberries. Not like an authentic lambic, but quite complex and very soft on the palate. Very nice stuff.

I think my bottle here is 2 years old. Enjoyed at a tasting split 4 ways. Sort of light reddish blood hues and medium white head. Nose is very oaky with musty berries and matchsticks. Taste isn’t too bad. Lightly sour, more tart and earthy than anything. The fruit is great with a touch of copper and oak. great mouthfeel.

on tap @ Rivertown Brewing / Cincinnati OH --- Cloudy dark orange amber with no head, no lace; very still. Taste is sour malt with just a bit of fruit entering in the palate. Cleans the palate, quenches the thirst, drinks simply and easily. excellent lambic.
