COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Per the bottle, "Unlike conventional ales and lagers which are fermented by carefully cultivated strains of brewers yeast, Ojos Negros is instead produced by exposing it to the wild yeasts and bacteria that are native to the Senne Valley, of Brussels Belgium. It is this unusual process involving over a year of fermentation, and over 130 pounds of Fresh Whole Blackberries which gives this beer its distinctive flavor: Semi sweet, vinous, fruity and cidery with a crisp tart aftertaste." According to one of the brewers, it is their Lambic (agen in oak wine barrels) with blackberries added.

Aroma - spiced wheat, Boo Berry, lactobillus yeast, and dried white fleshed fruit. Appearance - the body is a Mikado yellow. The head is not large, around 1/4" and white. The head settles straight away. Taste - nice tart splash of blackberries. There is a bit of Boo Berry marshmallow dust like flavor. There is a big dose of lactobillus yeast sour. There is some spiced wheat also present. Palate - body is on the light side of medium, the texture is vinous, the carbonation average, the finish sour/tart and white flesh fruit dry.

750 mL bottle shared with Doug. The pour is a nice bright ruby orange color with a thicker bubbly white head and no lace. The aroma is pretty interesting. It's definitely not as sour as I was hoping. There is a lot of fruit and a heavy funk. There is a hint of wine and some nice big fruit notes. I can't really get over the funkiness. The flavor is good. There is a big fruitiness up and a nice wineyness to go with a funky barrel. It's not bad at all. The barrel is throwing me because it's both winey and fruity at the same time. The mouth feel is light and crisp with a decent carbonation and a lingering fruity sour finish. It's good, and definitely not what I was expecting.

Pours clear light amber color with almost no head. Sour blackberry aroma with some oak, wine, and funk. Mouth puckering sour berry flavor with some oak, vinegar, wine, and funk. Medium body with no carbonation, totally flat.

Pours a golden amber color with barely a head...kinda flat. Aromas are vinous, horseblanket, and maybe a touch of berry. Flavors of vinegar, light berry...sour and funky as hell.

Warm amber golden colour, white head. Light fruity aroma, butter, diacetyl, ethylacetate, nail polish remover, vinegar. Sour flavour, somewhat fruity. Sour finish, fruity, butter. Rather unbalanced sour, bit disappointing really.

At Rich’s Massive Cellar Emptying Tasting. Rivertown ojos negros 2012 A matte copper-Amber pour with a cork, perfumey and light blackberries. Very acidic sparkling carbonation- gassy with a heartburn inducing co2. The taste is cork, chalky, whiskey barrel caracter no berries really.

Poured a deep gold-orange with a small head. No lace of course. Aroma is white grapes, acidic acid, fermented cider, pears, and straw. The taste was at first slight vinegar acidic acid moving to the flavorful white grape must and then the barrel smoothness. Buttery finish with oak. Hard to tell the blackberries but they don’t really have much flavor. Nice tart finish with a playful carbonation. Very nice and tart.

2011 bottle. Hazy berry gold with a small white head. Funky/musty, tart lactic berry, and oak aroma. Tart lactic blackberry, musty funk, and vinous oaky flavor. Medium body, lively carbonation. I could drink a lot of this. It aged beautifully.
