2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This beer tastes like a malt liquor. I know this was not the intent, but the intended banana and cloves flavor that should accompany the yeast is stunted by too much malt, rendering a unique but not impressive take on this style

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Secret Krampus beer #3, thanks Peter.
Pours golden clear yellow, nice white head, no real lacing or retention to speak of. The aroma is actually somewhat hoppy, which I found odd. At first I thought this was a crappy IPA but then I noticed that it’s an "American hefeweizen"...Beyond the hops are grass, grain, lemon, and mediocrity. I’m not opposed to taking a garbage style like pale wheat ale and hopping it up to make it drinkable but this is either old or it failed. The flavor is bitter, lemon, thin, corn, and seltzer water. Meh.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
1/25/14. 12oz bottle. Can’t remember for sure if this was from Trader Joe’s or from PorterPounder or Aurelius. I guess I didn’t know what I was getting into with this one. Is the "mysterious twist" Brett? Because it sure smells and tastes like it. I would have guessed I was drinking a Brett saison or something. Orange pour with a small khaki head. Brett funk and hay on the aroma, light sourness. Mild flavor, again Brett and lightly sour, some doughy malt poking through. Actually not bad, but not sure if that’s what it’s supposed to be.

Not much here. Much better wheats on the market. Murky pour. Taste is somewhat bland.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Golden pour. What was once a big white head quickly falls to nothing. Little lacing. Sour aroma. Little bit of hops. Taste is sour bread and hops.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - 12 oz bottle. Medium gold, slightly hazy, quickly diminishing white head. Lemons, a brief hint of cloves in the aroma. Flavor has some light pear-like fruity accents, a light touch of yeast, some light banana. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Would be a good summer refresher.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen. Pours hazy tawny with medium white head. Nice floral aroma, medium body, medium carbonation, and thick big bubble lacing. Taste is floral hops, piney hops, bitter finish. Not my thing.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Squat, slope-shouldered longneck with an OK plasticky label. Aroma is rather bland, and what’s there is sweaty with undertones that remind me of Pla Do or modeling clay for some reason. Foggy, light blonde. Filmy head that leaves tiny, pinstripe legs on the sides of the glass. Limp mouthfeel, thin, under-carbonated. Starchy, lightly hopped, generally dry tasting. Unentertaining. ABC Liquors, Betton.

2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
orange-yellow, a little cloudy but not the yeast brigade of some hefeweizens. Smells a little sour. Weird. Tastes like not much. Smallest bit of fruitiness but overall nondescript. Mediocre.

Bottle. Oh man was I disappointed. From a city of traditional Germans. This stuff was awful. Hefeweizen needs to be hefeweizen and not mixed with a pilsner. Put this one to bed.

if you are going to call it a hefe, make it a hefe. this is another example of an american brewer trying to put their spin on a classic style. its better than some, but the hops are just barely too much, and i get none of the banana, clove or bubblegum flavor of a traditional hefe. its ok, i wouldnt pick it up again, especially if im in the mood for the real deal.
