COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(From the label) "Ville De Rivere Geuze is a wonderful blend of one year old and three year old sour lambic beer. Following the blend the beer is allowed to mature in the bottle for up to six months. The result is a beautifully well rounded ale: Dry, cidery, musty, vinous, and sour."

Big thanks to Sledutah, Craig! It pours clear pale gold with a thin white head of foam. The aroma is Oude Gueuze Tilquin à l’Ancienne like with acidic citrus coming from a semi rich depth of lime and tangerine as well as a touch of hay and some sweetness. The taste is similar with soft acidic citrus notes like lime and lemon to go along with a tiny amount of residual sweetness. Along with those notes some hay and tartness and soft light vinegar comes to the surface to create additional depth. This is solid and refreshing and has a somewhat thin body making it even more sessionable. How has this come from Ohio?

Poured into a tulip out of a 750ml bottle. 2011 vintage. Pours a clear deep gold with tiny, minimal carbonation but enough to leave a small fizzy head. Just a few spots of lacing but it is passable. Aroma is quite vinous and almost stings the nostrils. Strong notes of barnyard and horse blanket along with a touch of wet hay. Some woody notes and a touch of grape must. The flavor closely follows the aroma up front. Strong hay and barnyard and very vinous. However the further you get into the drink, the more subtleties begin to show themselves. The wine barrel aging becomes evident with light notes of wood and some grape. A sweet shot of peach comes through that is quickly zapped by a drying, clean finish. Tartness is kept in check but is enough to cleanse the palate as it should. Overall, this beer is an underrated gem. I never had a fresh sample but I have to believe 3-4 years is the sweet spot. There is incredible depth and one would never guess this beer came from a brewery in an industrial park north of Cincinnati. This is up there with many Belgian examples of the style. Absolutely outstanding.

Bottle. Clear golden color with no head. Barnyard funk, lemon, cherry, dry hay aromas. Medium bodied with soft co2. Mild tart wheat, bretty flavors with tart cherry, lemons, dry hay, dust____mildly sour finish----lack of carbonation hurts here---not bad though.

Bomber shared by jsprime. Hazy golden with a white head. Fantastic funky tart nose. The flavour is classic geuze with half the normal acid. Super drinkable. For a beer I’d never heard of I was really impressed.

750 mL bottle shared with Ale Alpharetta. Pours clear yellow, with practically no head. The aroma is lemon juice, barnyard funk, wheat, and cardamon. Citrus sweetness up front, with a big, enjoyable sour bite. Light body, very acidic and astringent, crisp, and clean. Overall, this is delicious, very sour beer. Not terribly complex, but pleasant.

Thanks to Greg, for sharing this. Pours clear amber with no head. Lots of green apples - is this a geuze? No horse blanket or funk. Mint, a little tart, green apple, moderately sweet, grape and green apples. Okay, don’t really get the gueze deal, but a tasty beer regardless.

Bottle... This beer rolls casually through yellow lights!… Cloudy straw-colored ale with no head. Lemony, bready nose. Medium-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and busy carbonation. The flavor is sour, lemony and bready – lactic acid and cracker malt. Crisp finish with nice tartness and light, yeasty bitterness. Mad props to biggsbowler for coming through with this world class beer!

Bottle. Poured amber yellow with no head. Sour start with a huge barrel flavor in the middle and rounded out with a spicy dry finish. Funky, musty, tart. Everything you’d be looking for in a barrel aged sour.

This was tasted at Dark Lord Day 2014. Into the tasting glass it poured a hazy yellow color with minimal white head. The nose was sour on fruit. Medium body. Flavor a sour tartness which carries to the finish Pretty tasty.
