dpjuart (555), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2007 Draft sample at the brewery. Dark brown to black color. Roasted barly nose with hints of coffee. Tasted "roasty" with predominant coffe overtones. Crisp finish with alcohol warmth, but not overpowering. Behemoth of a beer. Pretty good. Actually, damn good. cheapdark (1558), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2007 Roasty dark aroma. Black like used motor oil. Taste is typical impy stout. Don’t be fooled by my numbers, I just don’t care for impy stouts. This stuff however will stand up to any impy stout in the top 25. Interesting rock like background flavors. Rivertowne makes the offensive brews that other brewpubs are afraid they feel they can’t sell. Excellent example of obtrusive impy stout. FROTHINGSLOSH (1485), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2007 Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark black color with a small dark brown head. The aroma was sweet roasty chocolate. The flavor was sweet and robust with elements of coffee, chocolate syrup and floral hops. The finish was long with sweet chocolate notes. The alcohol showed a bit. Nate (2239), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 17, 2007 Draught sample at brewery. Dark brown-black body with thin light-tan lacing head. Medium-heavy chewy body with smooth carbonation. Great coffee-chocolate aroma with mild bitterness. Slight bit of cocoa and hazelnut. Bit of smoke. Starts with heavy chocolate-coffee malts, good roasted grain notes and a bit of vanilla and oak. Extremely flavorful and rich with just the right amount of bitter at the finish. Light alcohol and vinuous notes with just a bit of tang. Would be good to bottle and age a bit more.
