Can sample at the Rivertowne tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 4/10/14. Pours clear brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some bread. Malty and caramelly flavor with a bit of roast before a dry finish.

Can to snifter. Looks good for the style; a semi-transparent dark copper with off-white lacing. Smells semi-sweet and malty with a bit of toastiness. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Not bad, but forgettable.

12oz can, shared. Mostly clear red color, appears brown. Thin ring of off-white head, few bits of lace. Light to medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Nice toasty aroma, caramel aroma. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Good, enjoyable easy drinking scottish. Nice complex malt aroma to it, good bitterness and earthy hop too.

The aroma leaves something to be desired. Other Scottish ales I’ve had had a nice malty and earthy bouquet. This smells almost nondistinct, with some sweet malt notes here and there. Body is thinner than I was expecting, although it matches the aroma. Malty, earthy, bready flavors are present. A tough of toasty peat at the end before bread crust finishes the flavor. Pleasant, but nothing special. Overall I was expecting more flavor from a Scottish ale that’s above 5% abv, but this is a good drinkable beer.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a solid cola tint when held up to a light with a half centimetre tall tan head - decent looking. Aroma of pure cereal and funk - this smells exactly like Goya Malta or any other cereal malt beverage - just plain bad. Medium-bodied; Assertive cereal and funky malt flavours at first with nothing else following behind except for some odd sweetness and a hint of pears and other fruit. Aftertaste leaves nothing to be proud of - just some deep malt flavours and a funkiness that persists. Overall, a pretty poor offering, given that there isn’t much flavour and when there is, it’s just bad and not pleasant at all. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 03-January-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 04-March-2014.

This one poured a darker amber color with an off white head. Aroma was of caramel, dark fruits, and toast. Flavor was similar, very well integrated, flavorful, and simple.

Sweet caramel session beer....best scottish ale I have ever had! Small roasty flavor that is great for a medium brown ale

Dark brown pour with some glinting red. Small off-white head that quickly falls leaving some small amount of lacing. Not much though. Big malty aroma. Biscuit and bread. Very malty taste. Some notes of bread and a slight roasted note. Very tasty. Sweet malt finish. Good.

Pours a chestnut brown color with a cream-colored head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, and dark fruit. Sweet flavor with caramel, cherry, and nuts. Decent beer, but a bit weak for the style.
