COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In honor of our friend and mascot, Wylie the fish, we are hooking you up with an aggressively hopped India Pale, the staple for any fishing trip. This beer is a hop lover’s dream. Andrew Maxwell put over 1.5 decades of recipe development into this India Pale Ale, creating the fourth dimension of flavor. Combining four varieties of hops produces a unique beer that has an aggressive hop flavor, bite and aroma without denying the presence of malt which I.P.A.s often lack.

Can. Nose of caramel and medium pine, dough with light spice, muted citrus. Pours orange, transparent with a touch of haze, rocky creamy beige head. Taste sweet (probably too sweet) with medium bitterness, and in that contest, the sweetness wins. Light resin under the caramel, very woody with little citrus, medium body thins out and flattens at times, very faint warming. Dough, somewhat smooth, heavy. Overall, has attractive points, don’t like enough to buy a case..

12 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours slightly hazy bright orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, caramel, toast, biscuit, light toffee, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity of citrus/floral hops and balanced sweet malts; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and lightly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice IPA. Good balance and complexity of citrus/floral hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. A bit too malty, but otherwise a nicely enjoyable IPA.

Can... Clear golden pour with amber highlights and a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The nose is a coalition of tea biscuit and spicy, floral hops. Medium-bodied and astringent with modest carbonation. The flavor is a merger of cookie malt and medium to heavy hop bitterness. A bit thin overall with a lengthy, abrasive, bone-dry finish. Can courtesy of darkguardian!

Aroma: Floral and resin hop aromas. Appearance:Cloudy orange with a rich white head. Taste: Medium bitterness that builds across the tongue with a light sweetness to balance. Palate: Medium body, thick texture, average carbonation, long finish. Overall: It’s a very solid beer, but nothing stands out as overly impressive or noteworthy.

From BA review on 2-12-12 - Served in a pint glass Appearance – A light red and slightly cloudy colored body with a slight off white head. The head fades leaving only but a small trace of lacing Smell - The aromas as a whole are relatively mild. Citrus hops mixed with a bit of pine. There is a slight rye aroma in there as well. Taste – Some pine and citrus up front with a bit of breadiness mixed in. A bit of roasted malt flavor come to as the hop flavors dissipate a bit in the middle of the taste. Toward the end there is a slight resurgence of the hop flavor, mainly bitter in nature with an ever so more grassy flavor. Mouthfeel – A bit thin on the body with a very medium level of carbonation. Noting really to great here. Overall – It’s an alright IPA, but nothing really special.

Pours out a somewhat clear coppery color with a decent off white head. Aroma is of citrus fruit, and floral hops, light sweet malty notes. Taste drops off a bit, some citrus rinds, light floral notes, sweet grains come through more predominantly than the hops in the taste.

Can thanks to DrSilverworm. Hazy light gold pour with a small head that fades to a very thin ring. Aroma is pretty malty for an IPA. Caramel and sugar cookies mostly with some citrus and floral hops. Taste is juicy sweet with not much bitterness to balance. Spicy and citrus hops are there to go with the caramel malt. Medium to full body and not much carbonation which hurts it I think. Not really my kinda IPA but certainly not bad.

Can from Heinens. Caramel colored with lasting head and lace. Spicy hop aroma with some pine. Some mild toasty malts and some fruity malts with a lasting bitter rindy hop finish. One of those American/English hybrids. Pretty good. Maybe ciould have been fresher, but I couldn’t see a date code.

Filtered orange-tan. Foamy off-white head. Brewhouse aroma, mild orange tones. Pretty boring IPA, 1.5 decades of recipe development huh? The malts are run of the mill, and lack a toasty freshness. The hops are tame and on the lighter side for an IPA in 2014. Not a horrible brew, but pretty insipid, should shy away from glorious descriptions.
