Bottle. So this is the first beer I have ever poured that was all head. In disbelief, I stood back slightly and looked at the glass for any signs of an orangish liquid at the bottom... not a millimeter to be found! Aromas are OK, but pedestrian. A bit of funk (was this one infected?) with some grainy malts and light hops. Flavor was similar and it just tasted like and IPA that rode around in the back of the truck for the summer. Malt with a little bit of hops and a slightly skunky old edge to it. I’ll try this again, but I’m a little saddened that this isn’t the new Holy Grail of IPA’s.

Poured into a pint glass.
4.0 A: Hazed amber brown color. One and a half fingers of creamy off-white head with average retention and a good bit of lacing.
4.0 S: Pretty good aroma. Equal mixture of hops and malts. Malts offer a good bit of toffee and caramel to a lesser extent. Hops are citrusy and earthy with orange being more apparent. A bit of Chinook-like cat piss and yeastiness too. Pretty good.
3.5 T: Earthy and refreshing. Moderate-heavy bitterness, earthy hops with some citrus and pine, and caramel and toffee malts. Yeastiness is a bit heavy handed, but otherwise pretty good.
3.5 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation that is just a tad bity. Could be a bit creamier and a bit less chewy yeast.
3.5 D: Not a bad beer, but I’d prefer it to be a bit cleaner. I like yeastiness to a degree, but this is a tad too much for this beer

Review #800- thought I would go local with a brewpub that recently started bottling! I’ve had this on-tap before but was pretty excited to see a bottled sixer at GE Market District.
A- Body is a nearly transparent rich amber hue. Pours with a foamy 2-3 finger off white slightly rusty head that slowly fades to about one finger and sticks from there. Lots of lacing all the way down the glass-this is what an IPA should look like!
S- The nose isn’t as rich or bright as the draft version but is still decent. Herbal hops, hay, pale malt and caramel malt come through the most-with a hint of pine in the back.
T- Herbal hops and a mild caramel malt backbone. The finish is all refreshing pine-but its not as bright as some west coast IPAs-it takes its time to come through and grows in strength gradually from the back to the front-a moderate refreshing pine hop flavor and bitterness linger.
M- Feel is fantastic-medium prickly carbonation and a light to medium weight very smooth, oily body.
D- This is a very good IPA- the bottling decreases the freshness and the brightness of what I remember from the brewpub-but the mouthfeel is exceptional and this is still wonderful either way overall.

Bottle, on pour this is a hazed burnt orange color with a massive off white head that was loose while producing decent lacing. The hoppy aroma is made of bushes and vegetables. The palate has massive notes of bitterness. A solid full finish completes this beer.

Even with a careful pour, WAY too much head. Nice color, on the darker side of a regular IPA, nice floral hop aroma. Bold taste with a very hoppy finish, almost unbalanced - if you are looking for a strongly hopped beer, go for this, if you are looking for a balanced, somewhat restrained example..this is not the one.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2010 Pours a cloudy orange with a thick head with a brown tinge. The head lasts a long long time. Hoppy aroma, smells like a perfect IPA. Looks like a perfect IPA. My hopes are high for this one. My wife points out the logo is hilarious. This beer has the bite of an IPA, it is crisp, and finishes really smooth. I am thoroughly impressed. I am removing a couple of points because the head is just way too much. I can’t even pour it without causing the head to overflow the glass, no matter how careful I am.

Draft at Pittsburgh location. Pours a golden amber, white head. Hops, slight bitterness, sweet malt, and grain. Balanced and easy to drink.

Enjoyed on tap in an English pint glass. The beer pours a medium amber color, with a moderately sized and fairly dense white head. The nose carries strong hop aromas. Citrus and pine, along with a strong note of Simcoe. Excellent. The palate nails the profile of a well-made example of the style. Moderate to strong bitterness up front, followed by some flavorsome resiny notes of pine and cattyness, a slight malt sweetness, before ending with a dry and lingering bitter finish. Overall, very well-made and pleasantly drinkable.

On tap at Rivertowne. Pours a hazy, amberish burnt orange colored body with a finger-width, frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is some dense grapefruits and thicker caramels. A light cystal, floral, and pine. Flavor is better with a sweeter grapefruit pine and floral with a touch of candy. Balancing caramel and a light crystal before this finishes dry with a nice, moderate bitterness. Leaves a lengthy aftertaste after a medium body and light carbonation. Overall, a solid IPA. Nice bitterness and grapefruity pine with a solid caramel balance. Not bad.

Sampled at 2009 Pittsburgh Brufest. Poured a vibrant amber color with a small white head. Decent aromas of floral hops and citrus. Good flavors of grapefruit and caramel, finished bitter but was balanced well by the malt. A solid IPA.
