COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In honor of our friend and mascot, Wylie the fish, we are hooking you up with an aggressively hopped India Pale, the staple for any fishing trip. This beer is a hop lover’s dream. Andrew Maxwell put over 1.5 decades of recipe development into this India Pale Ale, creating the fourth dimension of flavor. Combining four varieties of hops produces a unique beer that has an aggressive hop flavor, bite and aroma without denying the presence of malt which I.P.A.s often lack.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2010 Pours a cloudy orange with a thick head with a brown tinge. The head lasts a long long time. Hoppy aroma, smells like a perfect IPA. Looks like a perfect IPA. My hopes are high for this one. My wife points out the logo is hilarious. This beer has the bite of an IPA, it is crisp, and finishes really smooth. I am thoroughly impressed. I am removing a couple of points because the head is just way too much. I can’t even pour it without causing the head to overflow the glass, no matter how careful I am.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2008 Draft sample at the brewpub. Medium amber color. Very floral, citrus hop nose. All hops all the way on this one. It not overpowering, infact, very well balanced start to finish. Very clean. Hints of oak throughout, but not overpowering. It compliments the hop character very well. Dig it. I dig it a lot. I’m a fan.

4/15/08 Needed a chance to re-rate this one. Pours orange/amber with an off-white head, great lacing, especially for a growler pour. Nose is flowery and citrus hops, sweet and sticky malt. Medium to full mouthfeel with good balance of caramel and toffee wit ha slight earthy taste and bit citrus and floral flavor. Lots of bitter towards the end, over taking the tastebuds in the finish and well into the after. It lingers for a while. Delicious. Very nice IPA.

Draught sample at brewery. Medium amber reddish body with thin foamy lacing head. Starts with big juicy hops, fresh with grapefruit and resin. Good sweet malt with light caramel and biscuit. Finish is a big bitter chomp, dry, with a lasting bitter coating to the tongue. Medium body with medium carbonation. Floral hops nose with fresh grapefruit oil and resin. Really nice balance and goes down a bit too easily. Very nice IPA. It’s a refreshing step back from the IIPAs that are showing up more and more.

Can’t complain about this one. A very tasty IPA. Similar to the IPA Andrew brewed at John Harvards not too long ago, but a bit better I thought. Maybe fuller bodied? Poured with a nice head, and a good amber color.

Nice, nice APA aroma - balanced, not over-the-top. Caramel, toast, medium hoppy, medium sweet. Bitter, sweetish. One of the best brewpub examples of the style that has largely been rode hard and put up wet. Candied at times. Prominent orange, toast in the finish.

Review #800- thought I would go local with a brewpub that recently started bottling! I’ve had this on-tap before but was pretty excited to see a bottled sixer at GE Market District. A- Body is a nearly transparent rich amber hue. Pours with a foamy 2-3 finger off white slightly rusty head that slowly fades to about one finger and sticks from there. Lots of lacing all the way down the glass-this is what an IPA should look like! S- The nose isn’t as rich or bright as the draft version but is still decent. Herbal hops, hay, pale malt and caramel malt come through the most-with a hint of pine in the back. T- Herbal hops and a mild caramel malt backbone. The finish is all refreshing pine-but its not as bright as some west coast IPAs-it takes its time to come through and grows in strength gradually from the back to the front-a moderate refreshing pine hop flavor and bitterness linger. M- Feel is fantastic-medium prickly carbonation and a light to medium weight very smooth, oily body. D- This is a very good IPA- the bottling decreases the freshness and the brightness of what I remember from the brewpub-but the mouthfeel is exceptional and this is still wonderful either way overall. Aroma: Floral and resin hop aromas. Appearance:Cloudy orange with a rich white head. Taste: Medium bitterness that builds across the tongue with a light sweetness to balance. Palate: Medium body, thick texture, average carbonation, long finish. Overall: It’s a very solid beer, but nothing stands out as overly impressive or noteworthy.

Bottle, on pour this is a hazed burnt orange color with a massive off white head that was loose while producing decent lacing. The hoppy aroma is made of bushes and vegetables. The palate has massive notes of bitterness. A solid full finish completes this beer.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours slightly hazy bright orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, caramel, toast, biscuit, light toffee, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity of citrus/floral hops and balanced sweet malts; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, caramel, toast, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of juicy citrus/floral hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and lightly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice IPA. Good balance and complexity of citrus/floral hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. A bit too malty, but otherwise a nicely enjoyable IPA.

Courtesy of Juart from a growler. Pours a clear amber color with a thick eggshell head and excellent lacing. The nose is a sweet cotton candy with some floral and pine notes, but not a lot of real bitterness. The flavor has a lot of caramel malt and toffee. The hop flavor is piny and spicy. A medium body with some oily texture that leaves a nice bitterness on the tongue.
