WARNING!!! This sneaky foreign style stout will send you across the pond without the 8 hour flight! The medium body pairs well with an aggressive roasted character matched only by a hop complexity you won’t forget!!

Couldn’t telll you what a foreign stout is. Pours inky black from tap without much of a head. Definitely some roasting on the nose with a slight sugar note. Tastes a bit like thin cough syrup. Not my fave but not horrible.

On tap at the Pour House. Rich roasty aroma, with chocolate, vanilla, and light coffee. Bit of smoke. Roasted barley and mild hop character. Dark black-brown opaque with thin cocoa lacing head. Medium watery body with medium-high carbonation. Starts medium sweet with lots of roasted-toasted malt, roasted barley, chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Light carbonic acidity with medium roasted bitter finish. Light hop in finish. After is mild smoke with burnt grain. Light hops and a bit of acidity.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2011 Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a black color with a large foamy brown head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty coffee. The flavor was bitter and toasty with notes of coffee, cocoa and malted milk and a faint floral hop undertone. The finish was medium length roasty malted milk. Fairly full bodied. Not sweet enough for a foreign stout in my view. Nice.

On tap at Rivertowne. Pours a mostly black body with a finger-width, creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is nice. Well roasted and soft with a semi-sweet, dark chocolate and caramel maltiness. A light earthy hoppiness too. Flavor is similar. Smooth and rich dark chocolates with a nice, soft roast and moderate amount of earthy hops. A touch of lactose towards the end as this dries with a moderate bitterness and roasty finish. Light to medium, smooth body and soft carbonation that leaves a medium length aftertaste. Overall, a solid stout all-around. Pleasant chocolate, roasts, and hops make this very enjoyable. Good one.
