750 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, 2012 vintage, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a nice mocha head. Aroma: Dark-roasted malts, phenolic, light esters, dark chocolate, dark-roasted coffee, molasses, quite a lot of Impt Stout character with limited Belgian character. Palate: Medium-full body with medium, very creamy effervescence. Flav.: Much like the nose, with plenty of rich dark-roasted maltiness, dark chocolate and coffee, some molasses, light Belgian yeast character, not bad; off-dry with decent bitterness and a long, inky, dark-roasted malt and somewhat Belgian finish.

Good, but not end of days good.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt notes with some bitter black chocolate notes is pleasant enough. Taste is also dominated by dry roasted malt with some bitter black chocolates notes. Belgian yeast provides light and quite subtle fruity notes with some cocoa also noticeable. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice take of the style.

Black pour with a decent sized tan head. Roasted malt, belgian yeast and Coffee in the aroma. Chocolate and bitter coffee up front, yeast, soy, roasted malt, a bit of smoke. Medium body, fairly lively carbonation. A surprise from a brewer I usually stay clear of.
