COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spicy, strong beer, made in Montreal by Cheval Blanc under license to Achouffe. Similar to, but not the same as, the classic La Chouffe.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this one. Pours a lightly hazy golden with lots of small floaties and a small bubbly white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, citrus, Chouffe yeast, malty sweetness. Flavor was very sweet and malty, still had the Belgian spices adn yeast in there, some of the pepper, but more sweet La Chouffe. Slight hints of hop bitterness.

Pour a hazy orange colour with a small white head that vanishes quickly. Aroma of spice is well pronounced. Interesting beer.

Drank in a trappist glass. Light orange poor with a thin white head. Aromas are spicy and very floral. Lilacs, coriander, ginger, rose bushes, a hint of pine... Flavors are EXACTLY what you smell... Again very floral with a specific spice i cannot for the love of god put my hand on... I’d have to say that i smell and taste a hint of indonesian pepper... overall very attractive beer with just the right amount of everything, well balanced beer!

Bottle from a mix-six pack plus free glass purchased in the Provigo store in Pointe a la Crois PQ. Pours a dirty hazy yellow with scant sediment. Aromas of mixed fruit (tropical and apple) and bananas. Same flavours along with a little spice, but the finish is a little harsh. I suspect this would be better on tap.

341 ml bottle. Cloudy orange-gold with a medium white head that vanishes quicly. The aroma is spicy with some peach and malt. Taste is fruity and spicy, with some herbal notes and maltiness. Doesn’t seems as spicy as the original.

Bouteille de 341 ml. Jaune brumeuse comme une blanche belge, peu de collet. Petit arome d’épice, surtout la coriande, un peu de malte. Faible goût d’épice, sensation de banane doux. Assé plaisant.

Bottle: Poured a hazed orange-gold ale with a glistening sheen into my goblet. Substantial tight white cap... I’m not used to seeing on these high ABV ales...lasts reasonably and laces the glass well. Aroma is excellent: spice, pinapple, earthy-honey tones and mustiness. Solid malt spine, soft mouth feel, rounded satisfying character. Delivers a spiced load of malt in the front, corriander, cinnamon and other spice tones battle it out with the substantial malts for balance...mid palate the hops release their tastes to add a burst of drying bitterness against the yeasty fruit flavors...finishes dry , and spritzy but very clean with no after tastes for such a strongly spiced ale!?...alcohol is totally hidden. This "elf" ale has a distinctly different charater from its Belgian counterpart but in a good way. This ale is nice and malty yet all the spice and fruit are there...the dry finish is a surprise but seems to work as the strong spicing totally drops out in the end to leave you with a clean dry finish....nicely put together. I will buy more.
