355ml bottle. Bright and clear in the glass with a solid amber colour and a reasonable white head. Some slight caramel malt aromas but very faint. The flavours a bit soapy in the mouth. Basic version of the style.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Itís been an unusual week, and itís only Wednesday. 6 new beers at the *Albertsonís*, for goodnessí sakes - and Iím becoming convinced that Andy Kaufman is actually alive and hidden out in a trailer someplace watching satellite television. As for the beer -- sweet, soft, citrus-floral nose with some candy. Very well-done label and cap, clear orange beer with a huge khaki head. Bitter orange marmalade-peel bitter, medium sweetness, candyish at times. Medium to medium-heavy mouth, very long medium-heavy bitter aftertaste. Sweet on the lips. This did alright.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a slightly hazy coppery light amber with a nice lasting off white head and some decent lace. Aroma is pretty bland, some light wet paper, stale hops and crackery malts. Flavor has some solventy paint thinner character, light crystal malts, soggy paper and more stale crap. Slightly watery taste with a harsh solvent aftertaste. Should have known better than to try this from City.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 ounce bottle from City Market in Burlington VT (February 2008), served a little below cellar temperature from a Fitgerís pint glass. Pours a pale, slightly hazy amber-gold, smallish white smooth head lasts, doesnít lace or leave any real residue...light woody hops, caramel, a bit of dry, crusty citrus -- lemon out in the sun too long -- and some undefinable rotting character in the aroma, which despite my negative comments isnít terrible, merely....odd....the body has a pronounced detergent character, a slick soapy note that does fade around midpalate but leaves an unpleasant tingle, along with the rather strong and artificial-seeming carbonation, and the very dry and burnt woody notes at the finish....some lighter fruity touches at the beginning help mitigate what could be a disaster, but all in all this is not good, and thus a quite worthy addition to the already poor City line-up.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: OCT 7, 2006 The aroma has citrus, biscuits, and sugar. The appearance is orange/gold with a persistent head. The flavor is like the aroma but with an astringent bitterness. The palate is appropriate for the style. The aftertaste is sticky sweet with citrus. This beer has some likeable elements but it tastes low quality.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours with an initially one-finger thick, tan colored head that sits atop an almost brilliantly clear, reddish amber colored beer. The aroma is hop forward with a mix of green herbaceous notes and citrus. Notes of grapefruit and orange mingle with pine and perhaps a touch of menthol. The hop character is a touch green, I am not quite sure what it is, but it is slightly off-putting (though it is quite subtle). Perhaps it is something like a green onion not, but I am not positive. There is a touch of toasty, biscuit-like malt character towards the end of the aroma, but you really have to dig for it to be noticeable.
Lightly sweet up front, solid caramelized crystal malt notes keep this from being dry. Sweet citrus hop notes also add to the perception of sweetness. Notes of orange and a touch of grapefruit make up the fruity notes. For some reason the flavors in this beer taste a bit wan to me, not sure why though. There is that same, almost onion-like hop note from the aroma and it tends to distract a bit. This is quite an easy drinking beer, and part of me likes it quite a bit, it is just that at times there are some distracting notes to this that donít quite jive. I do like that the brewer was not shy with the hops, lots of hop character is in this beer, enough to make the malt only play a supporting role. In the end I am definitely enjoying this beer, so there you go.
