Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

Poured from a bottle. Orange color, frothy head, spice aroma and taste. A little lacing, but floaters, which caused me to put the appearance score down a bit. Good beer otherwise.

Poured from a bottle. Murky yellow color with sediment, small white head. Medium wheat aroma. Medium body with a cinnamon flavor and a mild finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Spicy aroma of clove and allspice. Caramel color, slightly cloudy with a short lasting head. Pleasant spicy taste with a trace of banana. Watery feel and spicy finish.

Satisfaisante.

Some bar on tap: Pours light copper with white head. Aroma is spice and fruit, very much like a Belgian witbier. Taste is sweet, with banana and plenty of spice. I would not have guessed that this had different kinds of malts. It was easy drinking, but nothing phenomenal.

Much akin to the gent on the label of this brew, I held my head in abject horror and despair upon drinking this. Actually, it wasn’t that bad, just really disappointing, especially following the same brewery’s Death Valley DIPA, which fails miserably in style points but was more enjoyable nonetheless. Also, "Coup de Grisou" has something to do with mining explosions. Super cloudy light straw colour with a very foamy head. Light tangerine and wheat scents as well as some alcohol. Mildly sweet but overall too watery and too little carbonation to get much enjoyment out of it. Hardly any taste of buckwheat. Pass.

This beer was a real let down. It tasted like a watered down wit. It poured a light cloudy straw colour with a foamy head and low carbonation. It smelled good enough of citrus, wheat and coriander. It tasted much the same, but much weaker and I got none of the spicy buckwheat. It had such a water body that just falls flat in your mouth. Not impressed.

This buckwheat beer poured a nice amber colour with next to no head. Scents include light hop, yeast and light spice. First swig was very watery with flavours of malt and honey. Finish is mildly hoppy with a medium flavour.

Couleur cuivrée avec un beau col mousseux. Nez d’épices et de fruits. En bouche mélange assez complexe d’épices, de coriande, d’agrumes et de fruits rouges. Une belle bière bien balancé mais rien d’éclatant!

I know I have had this before, but forgot how uniquely it tastes. The buckwheat adds an earthy quality that make this just much different than other wheat beers. Not too much citrus. This would be a regular if it was available without a 5 hr drive.
