Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

Stunning. More mouthfeel and a bigger, fruitier flavor than hefeweizen. Also manages to avoid the bad aftertaste and the drinking-a-loaf-of-bread feeling that other buckwheats (Rogue) have. I’m not sure they still make this. If they stopped, it’s a damn shame.

Excellente !!!

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2003 Rerate 03/30/03: On tap at Cheval Blanc Brewpub this is one of the best beers I have ever had. It resonates with malt and belgian complexity and rich notes of buckweat... it danses on the tongue and lingers there for minutes after each sip. This is not the same beer as in the bottle.. Also this is NOT a german wheat as it is labled above:::::Previous rating: Disapointing, considering how much i had heard of this one. Faint rye malt flavour, "dirty" cheval blanc yeast and spices blen in this acceptable belgian styled ale. Just change the yeast guys.

Ginger spicy aroma and fruity aroma. Great clear beer with moton in it. Really really spicy beer. Some ginger and pepper taste with a tiny fruity flavor. Great strong palate. Will take this beer again anytime.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2009 341 mL Bottle sampled Dec 25, 2009. Revisited Dec 30, 2009. Murky gold body with a fluffy-rocky white head, lots of lace. Aroma of grains and wild berries, banana, mango, and cloves. Creamy but refreshing flavor of grains with a subtle combination of wild berries, ginger-hops aftertaste, and a curious cereal-grainy ginger linger in the finish. Nice beery-fizzy in the mouth. Brownie points for originality. I think this one is pretty neat and unique. Super bonne bière Québec!

This beer is said to be a spicy buckwheat one. It also has coriander in it. It poured a hazy amber-orange colour with a lot of carbonation. The thicker head dissapeared fairly quickly to form a thin one, for the remaining of the drinking experience. I could see lots of sediments floating around, and bigger ones hitting the bottom. Yeasty nose and hints of many spices. Taste also proves good with the spices, starting of with a sour taste and finishing with a dry smoothness. This is one of the better beers we can find here (province of Quebec) in the convenient stores. I like it !!!

341 ml bottle. Pours a mildly hazy yellow with a medium white head. Aromas are banana, clove, yeast, and pepper. Taste is banana, mild spice (pepper), and a nicely balanced but subtle hop bitterness. Very smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, and a very short finish. This is a very sessionable and enjoyable beer.

The wheres, whens and hows of first trying this one are somehow blurry but I remember liking it and I was able to come across a pack during the holidays of 2010. Poured a golden foggy body with nice lacing. The nose is intense and spicy with strong notes of buckwheat, caramel and coriander. The taste is also quite strong with a complex blend of spices, buckwheat and malts supported by a mild sharpness and sour-sweet flavours that finish in a medium vapory bitterness. Might get overwhelming so consider enjoying this one with moderation. Goes very well with salametti and creamy cheeses like the champsfleury, sauvagine and rouy.
