A beer with a complex taste brewed from three types of malt and fine hops following an in-house recipe. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavor.

750ml bottle from Marche Omni in Gatineau, Quebec. Rich mahogany in colour with a thin but lasting beige head, light lacing. The aroma is sweet, caramel, malty, yeasty, some spice. The flavour is yeasty, some sweet caramel malts, spice and citrus. Yeasty mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet, yeasty. I like this one, reminds me of Unibroue. Nice drinkability.

Pours a medium-dark brown with a offwhite rim that leaves some lacing. Taste is of brown sugar, caramelized raisins, oxidation. Moderately bitter, some alcohol. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and mouthfeel a bit thin for a dubbel but still OK. Overall an OK brew but not much more.

Pour is light brown with a small off-white cap. Nose is caramel, brown sugar, molasses, caramel. Taste is sweet, fruity, somewhat watery, with some caramelized sugar bitterness. Decent and boring.

750ml cork bottle served at about 8 degrees in a snifter glass: This ale pours an opaque burnt caramel body topped by about a finger of vivid tanned head. It holds low retention capabilities and lacing is barely noticeable. You can however spot a moderate carbonation on the surface of the brew. The nose is complex with spice like coriander and cloves at the forefront. An intriguing pineapple backbone enhances the sweet side of the aromas and boosts up the nose nicely. On the tongue, the attack is moderately sweet and spicy and gradually shifts to the fruits (again pineapple). It drops from a medium density to very dry quickly and leaves but a faint aftertaste of hops. This belgian brown is an interesting product and it respects traits of the style it wishes to represent. The fruity aspect is original and its medium density makes it easier to deal with. This brew was made to be paired with seared or grilled cuts of beef which makes it the perfect companion for the BBQ season. Cheers!

Bouteille 750ml.

750 ml bottle bought at at Les Marchants de la Bière in Sainte-Thérèse (Quebec) on July 9, 2014. Murky dark brown, small head. Spicy red fruit aroma, light molasses notes. Toast with jam taste, some spiciness but mostly dry mineral notes, somewhat dry aftertaste. Like MartinT noted back in 2002, it’s not a disaster!

This ale poured a deep dark amber colour with a small but fizzy brown head. Slightly cloudy. Scents include light caramel and malt. Not overly fragrant. First swig was smooth and a little watery with flavours of malt and brown sugar. A little spice. Finish is medium sweet with malt flavour lingering forever.
