American Brown Ale
A traditional English-style brown ale, but with more body. Its deep brown color comes from a combination of Chocolate and Black malts. Tall, dark and smooth – the perfect cure for the domestic beer blahs.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 12 oz. Unclouded chestnut. Large sticky head hangs around and leaves cobwebs of lace on the pint. Aromas of berries, cream and cocoa. Tastes of tart berries dipped in dry cocoa, with light coffee and char on the finish. Near-medium body is tingly, a little too fizzy and well-dried with roasted malt on the finish. I think it was a tad bit infected, but very interesting anyway.

12oz. Pours a light clear brown with a fluffy off-white head. Nose isn’t much to speak of, mostly bread malts. Body is an interesting combination of bitter chocolate and more bread malts. Touted as a "newcastle on steroids", I don’t quite see it as that but it could be a session brown ale for some people.

Sweaty, hoppy aroma and clear brown. Nice balance, good hopping, roast. Nuts and coffee in the finish.

Not impressed with this brown. It didn’t have the body and sweetness I would expect from a brown.

Terrific muddled brown pour with good cream head. A hint of sour , raisin, almost a barlywine aroma. Cloying on the palate. Flavor is biscuity and a little vegetal.

Slightly hazy ruby & copper tinted amber coloured body with a very thin off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, caramel, anise, cloves, yeast and a bit of sweet fruits - pretty nice for the style, actually! Medium-body; Soda sweetness with a chewy maltiness coupled with a bitter nut flavour. Aftertaste shows alcohol, metallic bitterness and a tiny twang of sweetness, but not much. Overall, the look and smell are great, it’s just the taste that disappoints. I probably wouldn’t recommend this, but it isn’t an absolutely horrible beer by any means. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Durham, North Carolina on 31-August-2008, sampled a day later at home in Washington.

Not good. I did not like the roasted rye bread grain taste it had. There was also a strange acidic taste that was bad. Not especially drinkable. Very carbonated and fizzy. Weak flavor.

An extra from ucusty. Sent in a picture to be uploaded. This beer is not bad at all. Pours with a large, rocky, off-white head covering a murky brown body. Aroma of toasted malts, nuts, some alcohol and nail polish. Taste is a bit bland, with some nuts, some nail polish, and bitterness from burn malts. A bit fizzy. Finish is bit astringent, but not too unplesant for a session.

Rich malt nose with raisins and roast malts, touch of alchohol, and a bit vegetal. Mostly clear deep amber brown with small off-white head. Malty molasses and dark fruits with some nuttiness. Medium body with clean slightly bitter finish

Tap @ TacoMac, crapapple. pours medium brown, no head. Aroma of sweet toffee, caramel, and toasted grain. Beautiful toasted flavor. rich malt. fllavor notes of chocolate. nice hop balance. Bitter enough to enjoy, just right to accentuate the malts. Another very nice offering from my neighbors in SC. cheers
