3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours dark brown with a medium-sized tan head that left some nice lacing. Aroma is lots of roasted malt and chocolate with few hops in evidence. They come out more in the flavor -- grassy, a little resinous -- but this is still a very mild IPA. Really more of a less complex imperial stout, perhaps? Medium mouthfeel. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but the finish is a bit astringent. Tasty and drinkable despite the ABV.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very interesting dark IPA, not too much aromatic hops but huge on the dry sid, giving it a clear medicinal not. Head and lacing were not all that much, cola colored

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured opaque black with a nice one finger tan head and ok lace. Aromas of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Flavors are similar, with just a touch of baking chocolate bitterness and dark fruit. Medium body and carbonation, slightly thin mouthfeel, and a finish that highlighted by the roasted malts.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at HoTb. Huge chocolate roasted malt aroma. Thick texture. Medium heavy body. Creamy texture also. Pretty solid beer. Bitter finish. This is more of a stout than a black ipa. Id call it a bitter stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 11, 2014 Bomber Bottle,
this ale had a black brown pour and made a initial two finger tan colored head that receded to a thin cover, it was dark (just a bit of very dark ruby at the very bottom of the glass could be seen when held up to a lamp) and it was hard to see the effervescence in the glass, I did find some trails of fine bubbles flowing up the sides of the glass, this ale left spots and fingers of lacing on the sides of the glass, I saw no sediment on the bottom of the bottle,
there were aromas of toasted and roasted malt, coffee and some dry chocolate with grass and citrus hops not in the background but behind the malt,
the flavors were roasted malt, chocolate and coffee with citrus and spice hops behind the malt (same as the aroma), some toasted bread, brown sugar and caramel sweetness,
the finish had a medium hop bitterness (or a bit less) with roasted malt and some chocolate trailing afterward, there was not much hop bitterness after the finish, and there was a little malt astringency in this drink but not enough to bother me or take away from the enjoyment of this beer but added to the bitterness of this beer,
the mouth feel was about medium with some creaminess on the palate with average carbonation,
this was a nice Black IPA, the flavor was bigger than the nose, I thought the alcohol was hidden well and I could see this ale as a sneaker of a drink, this drink is 9.5% alc., is this a Imperial Black IPA or a Black IPA?

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, pine and spicy hops. Black hue with an average sized light tan head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is heavy sweet and very heavy bitter. Palate is full bodied and oily with an above average carbonation. Overall this is a really good brew that really should be called an Imperial Black IPA. It’s a really big beer with good roasted aromas and and intense hop bitterness. Good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a near black color with a thick caramel colored head. Aroma is of malts, molasses, a slight roastiness, oak, vanilla, and wood chips. Flavor is more of a roasted malt stout style of brew that’s been aged in oak barrels. Caramel, vanilla, and chocolate are also present. Leaves an oaked malt finish. No hops present which is usually a must for IPA’s, but it doesn’t matter here, this is an all around great brew.
