Wax dipped bottle from Busterís in Memphis, TN. Pours a deep ruby brown with a foamy tan head. Smells like and drinks like an imperial stout that has been hopped up. Nice beer, even if it wasnít what I expect in a Black IPA. Malt dominates aroma and flavor, with a nice hop bitterness.

Bottle/22oz - Pours a very dark and pretty opaque black/brown in color. Little head (light tan) and low carbonation. Aroma is medium of dark roasted malts and surprisingly light on the hops... some pine resin present though. Flavor is quite a bit more hoppy with lots of pine and fairly bitter too... the roasted malts definitely take a back seat to the hops in the flavor profile. Finish is quite lingering and also quite bitter. I really like the hops and bitterness, but the beer is not well balanced... at all...

THOUGHTS: OK, so if they hopped this one 8 times how come it didnít seem hoppy? Donít get me wrong, itís a very tasty, but donít tell us itís hoppy when itís not. Tell us about the malts, since thatís what weíre tasting. Very nice, but not at all like what they are promoting. Coffee flavors were the real star here. Americna hops are more interesting in this style, but this is a unique take on the style. Personally, I would put this in the American strong ale category. Opposite of most beers in that the bitterness grew as it warmed instead of the malt. Hid alcohol incredibly well. Perfectly balance, especially in the aroma. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a very dark read that looked nearly black in the glass with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished to a point of only tiny spots and a thing ring around the edge that somehow left good lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy roasted malt and mild coffee; lighter dark chocolate; and light to moderate citrus hops. The initial flavor was rather sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic; while the finish was very sweet, better and acidic with a long duration. There was coffee, roasted malt, black cherry, citrus, dark chocolate, piney hops, and resinous hops. It had tons of initial flavor, but it dropped off a little in the finish. The slightly more than medium body was rather syrupy and then dry with fizzy carbonation and a slightly alcoholic and lightly dry finish.

Poured opaque black with a nice one finger tan head and ok lace. Aromas of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Flavors are similar, with just a touch of baking chocolate bitterness and dark fruit. Medium body and carbonation, slightly thin mouthfeel, and a finish that highlighted by the roasted malts.

Very interesting dark IPA, not too much aromatic hops but huge on the dry sid, giving it a clear medicinal not. Head and lacing were not all that much, cola colored

Deep brown, fluffy tan head, very rocky, excellent lacing... Aroma of chocolate, roast, citrus, lots of cereal grains, creamy... Very roasty, citrusy, creamy body.... lively dry medium body, alcohol is masterfully hidden, didnt realize it was 9.5% til nearly done the beer... very fine example...

Bomber. Pours dark brown with a medium-sized tan head that left some nice lacing. Aroma is lots of roasted malt and chocolate with few hops in evidence. They come out more in the flavor -- grassy, a little resinous -- but this is still a very mild IPA. Really more of a less complex imperial stout, perhaps? Medium mouthfeel. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but the finish is a bit astringent. Tasty and drinkable despite the ABV.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a thin white head and decent lacing. Aroma of roast coffee. Taste is nicely sweet up front with chocolate notes mid palate followed by a deep dark bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
