Bottle. Chocolate, coffee, and charcoal aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Sweet chocolate-caramel malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Pretty tasty.

Deep brown-black pour. The aroma is earthy and a litte bit spicy with a lot of chocolate through the middle. Softly hoppy and a bit of peppery character. Okay - but not terribly punchy.

22oz bottle with wax, shared with Robby. Black color. Thin light brown greyish head. Good lace. Nice light smoother carbonation. Good chocolate roasty aroma, bit of molasses. Light bitter taste. Unbelievable for 9.5%, no taste of alcohol, and drinks like 7%. Great roasty chocolate aftertaste. Great black IPA.

Pours deep red/brown with off white head, aroma is big zesty lemon and orange hops. Taste is grapefruit, lemon, orange up front leading into some smoky and bitter finish. Good version of a dark IPA, much more IPA than dark, but tasty.

Bomber. First off, I love these waxed bombers, and the periwinkle blue wax on this, coupled with the great blue/black label design, makes this one of the better looking bombers I’ve ever seen. The pour is jet black, thich, with 1-finger of well retained and creamy tan head. Definite 5 for look here. Nose is heavy roasty chocolate and patent malts, creamy lactose, substantial resiny hops. Tastes very malty, very rich and blackstrap molasses-like, almost to the cloying point. The resiny hops are there, making this an Alpha Klaus clone of sorts. Well hidden alcohol, and the palate thins out a bit late. Still, this one was pretty good.

Bottle at Max and Jess’s place. Pours a hazy brown with a thin beige head. Roast and sweet chocolate, touches of bitterness and a hint of a vegetal aroma. Sweet, vegetal vanilla, roast and chocolate. Roasty, chocolate, and cocoa bitterness.

Bottle (please no more wax dipping IPAs even the black variety). Pours a dark mahogany color with a nice creamy beige head, actually a great thick head. The aroma is sweet toasted malts, caramel, pine. The flavor is very much a porter not much of a IPA; caramel, toasted malts, milky coffee, light nutty notes, yes there is some citrus and bitterness in the finish. Not too bad, but this is not really much of a CDA.

Bomber. Poured deep brown with a tall, sticky, well-retained tan head. The aroma picked up coffee and roasty cocoa topped by green, earthy hops.. a bot strong and raw on the back of the nose. The flavor found very tasty dry-roasted baker’s chocolate and licorice at the core, with fresh earth and light resiny pine bitterness around.. some peppery alcohol too.. finished with nice balance between roasty, bitter, and boozy. Medium-bodied with higher carbonation on the palate.. just a few too many sticky sugars at times, but otherwise a good feel.

22 oz. bottle via trade. Pours a clear dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma is a nice blend of hops and malts: roasted malt, cocoa , citrus, and hints of pine resin. The flavor has a dark roasted malt base, with bittersweet chocolate, hints of black coffee and an overall mild sweetness. The hops provide moderate bitterness with citrus and pine standing out. The finishes is dry with more roasted malt. Medium bodied and somewhat smooth mouthfeel.

Bottle at Max’s tasting. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Malty sweet aroma with grassy hops. The flavor has sweet malts, grassy hops, and just a hint of vegentables. Decent.
