22oz bottle, wax coated neck, RJ stamp on top. Pour looks like a Coca-Cola. Dark brown\black, no head. Aroma is of black malts, charred grains. Some pine in the nose as well. Flavor of pine hops, burnt chocolate, roasted grains. Very dominating burnt malt character along with the sharp hop bitterness of pine bark flavor. Expected a bit more carbonation for a $9 bottle. The flavors were there, loads of roast and bitterness.

Bottle at Max’s tasting. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Malty sweet aroma with grassy hops. The flavor has sweet malts, grassy hops, and just a hint of vegentables. Decent.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Norm’s, 1/28/10

Aroma: Nose of chocolate, roasted malts, toast, caramel, pine, citrus, and nuts
Appearance: Dark brown beer with a minimal tan head and spotty lace
Flavor: Taste is roasted malts and bittersweet chocolate mostly, some bitterness
Palate: Medium-full bodied beer with soft carbonation and a bit astringent, booze are well-hidden
Overall Impression: This one only has a few ratings thus far, looks like a relatively new offering. I wouldn’t describe this as a DIPA/IIPA at all. It kind of has the feel of a porter, it isn’t what I would call a hoppy beer. I think I would like this beer more if they hadn’t tried to sell it to me as an IPA, so I’m taking off a bit from the overall for that. It doesn’t fit the style at all, but it is pretty good.

A bit of a sweet syrupy black IIPA... Its awkward yet hoppy and roasty. Not as bad as it couldve been but just mediocre.

Plasticy and malty, odd and sweetish, but it’s wax dipped so it’s .rar amirite?

Pours dark black with a tan head. Smell is more of roasted malt like a stout rather than hoppy like a dark IPA, which this claims to be. Taste confirms this, but it does have some bitterness to it like an IPA. Very rich beer with a creamy texture and low carbonation. Bitter finish. Overall a good beer but not what I expected - drinks more like an imperial stout than an IPA

a bit too strong where they need more flavor. the malts are a strong yet astringent it and the hops are notice yet not anything special for this type of beer. it has a sweet flavor of chocolate malts but the hoppiness brings a great amount of palate fatigue.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2010 4oz sample. Pours a dark brown with a little brown head. Aroma is sweet caramel, malty with some hoppyness. A little mollasas to the taste. With a bit of hoppiness and caramel. Palate is decent with medium mouthfeel and a decent finish overall a decent beer.

Deep brown-black pour. The aroma is earthy and a litte bit spicy with a lot of chocolate through the middle. Softly hoppy and a bit of peppery character. Okay - but not terribly punchy.
