Bottle. Aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, pine and spicy hops. Black hue with an average sized light tan head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is heavy sweet and very heavy bitter. Palate is full bodied and oily with an above average carbonation. Overall this is a really good brew that really should be called an Imperial Black IPA. Itís a really big beer with good roasted aromas and and intense hop bitterness. Good.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours very black with a transient tan head. Aroma of dark burnt malt, chocolate and something like herbal hop. And coffee? Full bodied. Flavor is very chocolate, hints of burnt malt, more than hints of coffee, and a fair amount of varying hop. Varying meaning I canít tell what it is. Seems noble/herbal, but thereís so much dark flavor itís hard to break this stuff down. Thereís a barley wine aspect. Thereís an IS aspect. Itís finishing burnt, chocolate, dry and pretty hoppy. Thereís just way too much going on with this. Not that thatís a bad thing.

Wonderful aroma of malty coffee, and taste begins a bit thin with a light bittering and slight sweet toffee taste but the aftertaste is pure bittered coffee. An interesting change of pace, not sure about a steady diet, but interesting taste and well presented bottle with itís waxed top.

22oz bottle with wax, shared with Robby. Black color. Thin light brown greyish head. Good lace. Nice light smoother carbonation. Good chocolate roasty aroma, bit of molasses. Light bitter taste. Unbelievable for 9.5%, no taste of alcohol, and drinks like 7%. Great roasty chocolate aftertaste. Great black IPA.

Bottle 650ml @ Geokkjer
Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, caramel, oat and herbal, floral hops. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a chocolate, mint and floral finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle shared at Sanderís in NYC. Pours deep brown with a creamy beige head. Rich dark malt nose, lots of burnt marshmallows. Medium sweet flavor, more burnt marshmallows, strong roast, torched wood, chocolate. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Well roasted malt finish, some milky coffee, roasted marshmallows, milk chocolate. Pretty damn tasty.

Hmmmm, where to start. Pine tar and oak ash aroma with a sneaky bit of molasses hiding out back. Dark and oily on the pour with a soft carbonation. The lack of hop bitterness and aroma make me question the style, although it has the caramel and biscuit flavors of a good IPA. This IS a very good ale more akin to an sweet stout or a hoppy porter. Sparkle City has a gem here!

Pours nearly black from the bottle with a thin tan head that dissipates to a slight ring around the edges with very little lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate and alcohol. Fizzy carbonation in the mouth with tastes of dark chocolate (a ton!), roasted malts and a hint of dark fruits and a pinch of citrus. This feels more like a stout than a black IPA. This very good but not what I expected. I really thought this would be more bitter.

Aroma is of light smoke with hoppy notes. Slightly floral at the end. Appearance is dark brown, bordering on black. Slight dirty head that dissipates very quickly. It is the first thing that makes you take note that this isnít a stout despite the color. Taste starts out with almost sweet black licorice, and followed by hops. It also has some chocolate and floral notes. Palate has an oily feel, with average carbonation. Overall, this is a superb black IPA and a wonderful example of the style.

Dark pour with a thick tan head. Aroma is chocolate, and citrus hops. Flavor show many similarities to a hoppy stout. Chocolate, roast, licorice, and citrus. Dry finish
