3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 NachlamSie (2346) - Tennessee, USA - OCT 28, 2007
Draught at Terry’s. This is an excellent name for a beer. Damned fish, that’s what they get. This has a tart, sour nose with wheaty, spiced notes. I had no idea what style this was as the name is not very indicative of that. I was going with Belgian wit, though the beer is only semi-cloudy at best. The flavor was more enjoyable with respectable depth. It is gritty and grainy with sourdough and citrus throughout. The finish is moderately dry with more subtle spiced notes. This was easily drinkable with my rip-off pizza as well. I was not expecting much from R.J. Rockers on a style like this, but it’s nice enough.

This one started with a great Belgian like aroma but came up a little short after that. Pours a clear amber with a nice head. Taste starts out like a Belgian but then kind of veers off. Seems a little lost but It’s still good. I’m not sure how to describe it. Nice try to meld some styles.

Draught from Greens Beverage. Pours a slightly hazy amber brown with a two-finger light tan head. Sour doughy wheat aroma with a bit of spice. Flavor is not what one would expect from the nose. Crisp and hoppy up front with a bit of citrus. The sourdough notes only come in at the end. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’ve never had this style before, but it is quite good, especially for RJ Rockers.

Pours a hazy dark orange with little to no head. Scent is fruity but the taste is more hoppy. Dry finish. Bottle says abv is 7.5%. This stuff is not bad and if you look closely at the label the fish is using hops to paralyze us, fun.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a tulip glass, the beer pours a copper/brown color with an inch off-white head. Head retention is decent, with good lacing. The aroma is nice, but light. The brew smells like pears, bready malt, Belgian yeast, plums and spice. The taste is somewhat different compared to the aroma. I can taste grassy and floral hops, bananas, cloves, caramel, lemon peel and a bit of an earthy flavor. Unfortunately, it sounds better than it actually tastes. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium with moderate carbonation. Seems a bit watery at times. Drinkability is OK enough. Not a bad brew, but IMO there are better Belgian Pale Ales out there. With that being said, this is certainly worth a try.

Bottle from Chuck’s: pours grapefruit copper, with a pleasant looking fluffy, tan head. fair amount of lacing. fermented fruit, spicy hops, floral notes, nutty malt overtones on the nose. subtle dark fruit, more caramel malts, Belgian yeast materializing, spicy Saaz hops pull through with building bitterness on the back end. medium bodied and finish. I wanted to like this more but it’s crisp and drinkable for sure.
