This is one hopped up beer. We use six different types of hops and our unique “hopburst” process to make this tasty IPA. Broken Knuckle has a wonderful hop aroma and flavor, subdued malt with balanced bitterness, with a stunning copper color.

Transfer from BA review on 10-20-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a deep amber-orange color with a one finger white head that fades relatively fast to leave a persistent film and a decent level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is mainly a mix of sweet tangerine and grapefruit hop. Mixed with these aromas are some notes of an earthy hop aroma as well as some caramel smell. Taste – A slightly sweeter bready flavor meets the tongue with a very light pine taste present as well. Quickly some flavors of a more citrus nature enter the taste. At the forefront they are more tangerine in nature, but as the taste advances more grapefruit hop enters the taste. In the end a rather satisfying blend of sweet, bread and hop are left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the just above side in terms of creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. Rather nice for the hoppy flavors but yet still very drinkable and refreshing with the moderate level of carbonation. Overall –A rather easy drinking and yet tasty brew with a good balance between bready, sweet and hop.

1/14/2014. Labeled as Railhouse IPA. Amber color with a white head. Caramel aromas with citrus and earthy notes. Caramel flavors with hops, malt and pine. Not bad at all.

Bomber from Kroger. Pours medium amber with a small off-white head. Smells of grapefruit, apricot, pine, and light malt. First sip: honey, grapefruit, and leaves. Second sip: more of the same with the addition of a gluey malt. This is interesting.

Firefest 2013, Forest VA, Draft: Rosehip, orange, lilly, and grapefruit nose. Clear amber, medium head. Strong lily flavor ringed with tangerine accents. Somewhat medicinal. Nice dry hopping, but a bit phenolic.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a nice amber color with a medium off white head. The nose is light in the hops department with a little citrus. The tongue confirms what the nose was thinking. This ain’t no IPA. Pale ale perhaps. Orange zest and light honey notes on the palate. Light to medium body with a short finish. Weak for an IPA, but not a bad brew.

Hazy copper pour, thin off white head and very light sticky lacing .... aroma of chewy caramel malts and earthy hops .... taste of earthy hops, chewy caramel malts, light tea and bittering hops .... has a faded bitter dry hop finish and a bit malty

Crisp amber coloured body with a brightish copper glow and a thin, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, light earth, a hint of grapefruit and citrus hops and a bit of caster sugars as well. Medium-bodied; Very resinous hop flavour at first with some pine sneaking in, but the malt is well balanced and showing well at the end with a lot of sweetness, especially for the style. Aftertaste shows more hops than malt and a bit of sweetness at the end, but no real complexity or unique flavours. Overall, a decent IPA, but without a large hop presence and anything unique at all, this is simply passable and not worth finding. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Sterling (Dulles), Virginia on 03-May-2013 for US$5.49 sampled at home in Washington on 30-May-2013.

Pours a clear amber with thin off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of earthy, citrus hops and caramel malts. Taste follows, slightly bitter finish. Decent, but nothing that amazing.

Bottle. Pours a mostly-clear amber color with a moderate white head. Nice bit of hoppy bitterness in the nose. The taste is a little bitter, but balanced well to cut the bitterness.

Fairly malty IPA. There’s a distinct, fairly fresh, hop smell and flavor, but not really aggressive for the style.
